Retired Navy vet Troy D. Stanley jumps into Congressional race

Here is a quick introduction to Troy D. Stanley, who is running for Congress in Florida’s 4th district. As a small business owner and your regular everyday guy, Stanley could make this a very interesting race. I’m sure that we will be hearing a lot more from Mr. Stanley and his campaign in the coming weeks and months- The Shark Tank will keep you posted.

Here is a little of what you can find on his website.

A twenty-year veteran of the United States Navy, Troy D. Stanley served his country in North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia. He fought in war and celebrated peace.

Having retired from active duty last summer, Mr. Stanley has now chosen to defend his country in another way, from the inside. “There must be a voice in Washington to defend the citizens from the tyranny of career politicians. We need ‘citizen’ legislators who aren’t continually running to save their jobs, but rather looking to ‘ensure the blessings of liberty’, as our Constitution states. Bailouts, buyouts, stimulus packages… the result is inevitably economic tyranny – not liberty.”

Early in 2009, Troy determined to unflinchingly enter the arena formerly reserved for career politicians and announced his candidacy to the U. S. House of Representatives.

He faces many challenges: running against an entrenched incumbent Republican candidate, raising adequate campaign contributions in tight economic times and igniting fires of freedom in the hearts of a community of citizens who often feel powerless to influence the direction of this Great Republic.

Troy D. Stanley lives in Jacksonville with his wife and their three children.

Some fun facts:

He is married to his high school sweetheart Valerie and has been for 25 years. They have three kids which they have home educated – two of which are in college. One attends the same college as his mom.

Troy operates a mobile food vending business. He frequently is asked to do “man on the street” spots with local news. His menu encourages customers to share a smile and a conversation “free of charge”.

In his first televised campaign announcement he was interviewed by a local news crew at his hot dog stand. :-)
