Over the Fourth of July weekend, I happened to run into Florida Gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott at a Tea Party rally as I was attending a few other events in Orlando/Melbourne area. Scott introduced his wife and daughter to the crowd of about 300 or so at the Melbourne baseball stadium before addressing several key issues affecting the state and the country. As always, Scott hammered home his stance on the illegal immigration problem by calling for enactment of an immigration law like Arizona’s here in Florida and emphasizing the importance of E-Verify in the workplace. (VIDEO)
“We need to make sure we bring the Arizona immigration law into the state,” Scott said.
Mr. Scott also acknowledged the importance of the Tea Party and addressed his primary opponent, AG Bill McCollum, whom had referenced Scott as a ‘unindicted co-conspirator’. Both candidates have launched very critical campaigns ads against each another, and their respective records are front and center in the debate– Scott, for his role in the HCA fraud case while he was the CEO, and now AG McCollum will be be subpoenaed to testify about what he knew and when he knew it in Jim Greer’s forthcoming criminal case in October.

The Shark Tank apologizes for the audio on the video. Because of time restraints, we were only able to tape in the dugout while the rest of the events program continued in the background.
It was very hard to hear Rick Scott over the loud speaker. Be careful in future interviews.
Thank you for all your great work around the state of Florida.
As for Rick Scott, it seems that if he was as awful as McCollum says he is then he would already have been charged with a crime years ago.
McCollum is the Attorney General. Why doesn’t he indict Rick Scott if he truly believes that Scott committed crimes.
McCollum is truly a nice fellow, but it may be time for a new face in state politics.
Jim Greer’s upcoming trial and the preparation which will lead up to it are sure to place the Republican Party in the news, and not in the most positive light. Questions will be asked about who knew what when. Actions or the failure to take actions will be srcutinized. Lamentably, our Attorney General may be called as a witness which, fairly or unfairly, cannot help but sully his campaign. I am very concerned about this.
Without Charlie Crist, there never would have been a Jim Greer. Yes, Charlie is the gift that keeps on giving.
Shark Tank strikes again! I love this guy Scott. McCollum backed Crist over Rubio and is entrenched with the same people that were trying to take Rubio down. What exactly does McCollum know about the Greer case? I can bet me like that he is heavily involved and that he will be indicted too.
I go way back with McCollum when he was in congress. I wrote a column entitled, “By Their Fruits Ye shall Know Them.” Here is an excerpt from the newsletter, VOICES OF THE FLORIDA TAXPAYER, Fall 2000: [ http://voices.freehosting.net/ -good search capabilities ]
“U.S. Senator-wannabe Bill McCollum has disqualified himself in our view due to his outrageous spending record in the U.S. Congress. According to the National Taxpayers Union’s latest VoteTally rankings, Rep. McCollum is among the biggest spenders in the Florida delegation, outspending Rep. Robert Wexler (Dist. 19), Rep. Alcee Hastings (Dist. 23) and other Florida Democrats (only Boyd and Diaz-Balart outspent him). In fact, he was the 43rd biggest spender in the entire U.S. Congress! It is difficult to imagine his Democratic opponent being much worse, although apparently he is…”
My point here is that McCollum represents himself as very conservative but what he is is a professional politician, nothing more.
Scott is a proven executive; the job of Governor is an executive position.
Which do you want in time of crisis, a proven exec or a career pol?
I have a hard time understanding how thousands of people can support a man that was the CEO of an institution that had to pay the highest fine ever paid (over 1,6 billion) for fraud against the people.
How do you expect this man to be honest in the future when in his near past he functioned like a crook.
How can you put your trust in a man that after the fine said that he was not aware of what took place although he was the CEO of the fined Company.
If you support a man with those known credentials, there is something that does not click right.
Scott will not get my vote. He is a dishonest businessman. He made money on medicare fraud. If he is so innocent , he would not have been booted out of his position. I dont believe his stand on pro-life. He made money on abortions in the hospitals he ran. As for Bill McCollum being called to testify in the Greer trial. Being called to testify does not necessarily make you guilty of a crime. Bill McCollum has been an honest and reliable conservative for many years. I trust him Therefore he will get my vote.
I have hard times supporting a man who was the CEO of an organization charged with fraud. The buck stops with the CEO,even when acting within the law. . Now , with that same money Mr Scott is buying hundred of minutes on TV ,talking about his opponent instead of issues Floridian are concern with in addition to self propaganda about his own agenda. Something is not right and so far he has not earned my vote.
Regarding inmigrations, his positions on superfluos portion of the reform sounds great, but how is he going to return 12 million people, what is the cost and how is he going to enforce it without border security. Issues such as US Corporations investment in Mexico , needs in the agricultural field and other sectors of the economy, education and many more issues related to inmigrations are less popular conversations , but are key to a long term and in deph reform. I don;t hear that from him campaign.
Need to hear more substance or I may have to cross the fence myself .
All of you that are still supporting McCollum are just as misinformed as he is. Scott is a businessman that will help create jobs here in florida. McCollum is a career politician that has proven to do whatever it takes to get elected. He backed Crist over Rubio when Crist was still popular among Republicans. That is very telling of him. Rick Scott for Governor!!!
Surely there is someone honest and qualified that we can vote for? Is it too late to beg Jeb to come back???
Steve Forbes just endorsed McCollum because of some Medicare scandal. Is this true about Scott, Javier? Can you clarify this for us in one of your Shark Tank articles?
Steve Forbes did indeed endorse McCollum over Scott. The reason was the usual one-HCA. No surprise here.
Scott reminds me of obama, look at his answers. ” we need jobs” ok jackass, thanks for stating the obvious, but he has no substance, no experience, and no plan. he spouts the answers people want.
his entire campaign is bashing mcollum on tv and radio over a bs out of context sound bite.
he hasnt said anything of substance yet!!
and the worst part is you sheep fall for it.
the electorate never ceases to amaze me with the how bat shit dumb they are.
I agree with Geoff, Javier being the iconoclast that he is(only for Republicans, though)probably wants to see another Republican bite the dust . I think we do need principled- for the people- experienced politicans in office.McCollum is just that. Have a political body with newcomers, but also some experience is definitely necessary as Obama’s blatant in-competence demonstrates. And by the way the crooks were at one time first time elected officials.Just because a person is not a career pol does not make him a candidate for beatification -sainthood.Nor being a lifetime public servant does not necessarily mean that the person is corrupt. Maybe it’s the system that needs reform. As it is the system that sometimes causes a person to adopt an end justifies the means policy.Wilburforce used deception and lies to end slavery in England.William Pitt was a career pol that helped him navigate the ugliness of political corrupt interests to do this.Although the anti-Iraq crowd would not like to hear that an unintended consequence of their great humanitarian abolition was the War of 1812. A great poltical team, the idealist and the pragmatist.
