  1. Kendrick, I am a Rubio supporter but I must say you are a class act!

  2. Thank you Kendrick for being a gentleman with your thoughts. Crist, however, how crass you are. And still some people think you are the best thing since sliced bread. I just don’t get it.

  3. Fl. Independent Voter

Former Republican Governor Charlie Crist, now an Independent, was also in attendance and I asked him what he thought of the elder Rubio’s illness, to which he responded, ” Yeah, I heard about that.” … Crist has no class. What a jerk!

  4. Wow. Why I won’t vote for him, two thumbs up for the very classy Meek.

  5. NoJournalismstandards

what an amazing article. For some reason, why don’t I trust these quotes? Because this isn’t journalism. It’s just campaign-material wrapped up in the aura of journalism because its on an online forum. scary, you guys can get away with so much.

  8. Came here from Hot Air … what a great statement from Congressman Meek. Truly a class act.

  9. Another Rubio Supporter

Well done Mr. Meek. It is my hope Mr. Rubio wins the election, but you seem to have class so many politicians lack.

  10. I agree with meek about very little. But he is a great human being. I can’t say I’d vote for him for senate. But I’d work for him barefoot for any business he ran. There are two very good men running for senate. I hope one of them ends up senator. The third guy can’t hold their jock as far as humanity… Rubio or meek… Ef charlie orangeface

  11. Kudos to Mr. Meek.

Marco Rubio’s father died last night. His campaign announced it on Marco’s website.

  12. I’m not a Democrat but Rep. Meek has run a very nice campaign throughout and has sincerely tried to reach beyond his base to prove that he would represent ALL of the people of Florida. This is just another example of a man who has his priorities intact. We might not agree on how to reach to goals but at least they are the same goals. Thank you Mr. Meek for you consideration and kindness to your opponent. It is noted and appreciated.

  13. Wow! Big porpers to Meek. I am solidly in Rubio’s corner, but that was class. Can you two please work your differences out, and take over the state of Florida?

  14. This was a classy act. Still going to fight to keep this seat, but this was a classy move.

  15. Thank you, Kendrick, for your kind words for your opponent.

    God bless you.

  16. Mr. Meek,

Although I differ with you on issue, and I will be voting for Rubio, you have earned my respect with your classy response and I wish you well.

  17. I’m sure that if it was Charlie’s tan salon operator who had died suddenly, Charlie would have offered condolences. What a jerk. Plaudits to Mr. Meeks. Although I disagree strenuously with his policies, he at least has a heart and class.

  18. Mr. Meek,

Truly a class act. While I oppose your politics, I support your generosity of spirit, and can only hope that all political actors, regardless of party, would show such grace and class.

    Kudos!!

  19. Class shows, and you are true class, Mr. Meek. I hope that your kind of politician becomes the norm. While I do not support you, I can still admire you as someone who has principles. We need your kind of man as a standard and model for our young men–black or white. Thank you, for transcending politics.

  21. Kendrick clearly has some personal humanity if his Dem statist issues do not. Crist, the consummate self-serving career pol has no feelings but for himself. We’re with Kendrick Meek in offering our condolences to Marco’s family. May Mr. Rubio requiescat in pace.

  22. Kendrick has won my vote.

    Character > politics.

  23. This is the wat everyone should act. You showed that you are a class act!

  24. A gentleman, indeed. Thank you for that, Congressman Meek.

  25. How in the world can Crist still be getting support from any Democrats or any Republicans – anyone for that matter. It is just amazing.

This goes to show that Crist is so self-centered it is unbelieveable. I want Marco to win, but if he doesn’t, I would prefer Meek any day over Crist.

Hats off to Kendrick Meek. He is a class act. It’s refreshing to see in a world where politics has turned so ugly.

  27. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful memorial to all of our fathers here in Florida if Floridians could hold an example of statemanship and class for the rest of the politcal establishment to copy. Well done Mr. Meeks and God keep the Rubio family in His light.

  29. “People over politics” is a foolish concept. People ARE their politics. Conservatism, particularly Marco Rubio’s hard-edged plutocratic kind, is based on indifference to human suffering, yet conservatives don’t realize this makes them unworthy of empathy or compassion when they’re hurting. I feel nothing for Marco Rubio’s pain.

  30. How sad that we have to be “amazed” when a Dem acts normal! He’s the decent,old-fashioned kind that my grandparents voted for,not the scum that call themselves “democrats” today!
Thank you Kendrick..I haven’t voted for a democrat since I voted for Jimmy Carter ….May G-d Bless You!

  31. Mr. Meeks, you’re a true gentleman, a refreshing thing to see in today’s political environment.

  32. Oh my stars, forgive my misspelling of your last name, Sir. I beg your pardon!

  33. Way to go Mr. Meeks.

    Class act!

I am a Rubio supporter but you have done alot to show all Democrats arent crass morons.

  34. My condolences to the Rubio family.

I would also like to commend Mr. Meeks for his seemingly sincere comments with regards to Mr. Rubio’s illness. I do not think it was an act, but genuine empathy that was displayed by Mr. Meeks, which shows his true character.

As for Charlie, what a jerk. According to himself, he is running as an independent not out of concern for himself, but for the state of Florida. Sorry Charlie, but your comment shows your true mindset. It’s not about anyone else, but yourself. Shameful.

  35. Charlie, is that you writing under the name sqeptiq?

  36. To Skweptiq
    OMG!!!!
    YOUR very words CONDEMN YOU!
You said “Conservatives are indifferent to human SUFFERING”…
    then you say
“I FEEL NOTHING for Marco Rubio’s SUFFERING”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who are YOU to DECIDE when people are “WORTHY of Compassion”??G-d??
I GUARANTEE YOU that conservatives are more philanthropic that libs.Just look at the Pres. & Vice-Pres’s Charitable giving on their Tax returns…shameful!!
YOU make our own point of WHY Libs are HYPOCRITES.
    SHAME ON YOU!

  37. Came here from HotAir also. I hope these remarks are genuine. In an age of soundbites, many people will say anything experdient.

  38. Thank you, Mr Meek for putting politics aside for the moment and for your thoughtful speech.

    Mr Crist, please go away.

  40. Tricia:

Conservatives really are an absurd lot. When people die because they can’t afford health care, conservatives think that’s fine and dandy, but when some conservative has a sorrow in his life, they want nice words. You characters make no sense at all.

  41. Mr. Meek,
I am in AZ so I can’t vote in FL either way, but thank you for your compassionate and classy response to this news.

    Charlie Crist,
Shame on you! You have zero class, no compassion and just demonstrated that you are, above all else, just a crass politician interested only in furthering your own career.

  42. AND… libs are parrots who repeat everything they hear!…Do you KNOW any doctors?Do You Know anyone who has “died because they can’t afford healthcare”?I know that’s a “loaded”question because I’m asking you to be honest.
NOBOBODY “dies because they can’t afford healthcare”.IT’S THE LAW that hospitals have to treat EVERYONE.I DO have a friend who’s son had a respiratory infection, that HE neglected & finally went to the hospital & was neglected & died .We believe he was treated that way because he was a rough looking rastafarian musician but that’s a whole OTHER issue. He WAS ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL & TOOK UP A HOSPITAL BED,WITH NO HEALTHCARE.It just so happens, his mother is a healthcare worker & his father works at a hospital.Needless to say that hospital is getting sued.BUT it was likely because of prejudice, not INSURANCE.
Doctors are leaving in DROVES.What are we supposed to do in 4 YEARS when healthcare goes into effect?swallow our Healthcare cards? Will having the stupid CARD make us better or the doctors who will NO LONGER BE THERE FOR US?
And YES,EVERYONE who has a sorrow in their life “deserves nice words”..even you!

  43. My sister died in hospital because she could not afford healthcare. Don’t tell me that “nobody” dies due to greedy insurance companies.

    It happened to my sister.

  44. Overall, I boldy disagree with Kendrick Meek’s voting record as a House of Representative, it was the right thing to do. “Never beat anyone when they’re down!”

  45. Meek is disrespecting the people of Florida because he is lying to the people when he states that there are three candidates in the Florida U. Senate race. A cursory check of the Florida Division of Elections website will show that there are more than three candidates running for U. S. Senate.. As a candidate for the Florida U. S. Senate in 2010, I see nothing that is respectable about a person who would lie in such a manner. Such behavior on his part shows that he is out of touch with reality or is intentionally trying to mislead the voters.

  46. @Tricia

Ha! You accuse me of parroting, yet you parrot Rush Limbaugh’s BS about people being able to get all the health care they need. even if they have neither insurance nor the cash to pay, simply by showing up at the emergency room! I’ll leave it to you to explain why the US has higher infant mortality and lower average lifespans than other well-off countries, despite the US being the richest country in the world. Most conservatives I know say “Oh it’s the blacks” or “Oh, it’s the welfare people,” evidently thinking that “those people’s” lives are cheap.

Anyway, I reject the empty conservative notion that it’s very, very important to say empty nice words, but not at all important to DO what needs to be done to secure people’s better interests: health care, housing, good working conditions, a living income. It would be nice if we could be civil in our public discourse, but conservatives have spoiled the chances for that since Newt Gingrich ramped up the hate rhetoric in the early-to-mid 90′s, branding Democrats and liberals wholesale as “depraved,” “sick,” etc: and the rest of the GOP and conservative movement followed him, or at least didn’t object. In 2004, conservatives smeared John Kerry as a traitor, and now they are doing the same to another honorable veteran, retired Admiral Joe Sestak (Pennsylvania US Senate candidate), whom they are painting as a traitor and ally of Islamic terrorists. It would be nice if our liberal and conservative greatgrandchildren could in the distant future love and respect each other, but here in the present, conservatives by their own evil deeds have forfeited any right to civility or good wishes from liberals,
