The Florida legislature should act quickly. For one thing, this will reduce the number of illegals taking advantage of medical care via the ERs. Another area of relief would be the police, fire services and the detention facilities. Finally, there should be some savings from the reduced load on education and associated costs. We don’t need to host illegal aliens with our scarce tax dollars.
It appears that we are going to see one of the busiest, most productive two years in Florida history, as far as legislation and policy are concerned. Amendments 5 and 6 cast doubt on how long the GOP will retain its huge majorities in the state legislatures, and so they will want to get everything that can be done, done quickly.
Great article.
Good. We need it, and it will send out a message of solidarity with Arizona and with all of our sister states; we have the right to protect themselves and to create legistature that enforces the federal laws in the absence of federal accountability. It would also avoid our getting the bulk of illegals migrating down here from border states; afterall, they speak the language and the weather is nicer, lol.
A more immediate issue for Mr. Haridopolis and Mr. Cannon is the imposition by the EPA of water nutrient standards on Florida’s water ways. This imposition will cost our ag industry billions and thousands of jobs will be lost in our state.
This threat becomes reality on November 14th. Illegal immigration legislation is all well and good. Right now though, interposition legislation is needed in the special session to tell EPA they and their nutrient standards are not recognized in our sovereign state. Our own DEP has the situation well in hand with sound science.
Ag Commissioner Bronson and Senator Elect Rubio know this is a devastating blow for Florida. But it is our legislature, in their duty to protect the citizens, and our farmers who must impose a verdict of nullification on this de facto power grab of our sovereign state’s waterways. Time is of the essence. We are either serious about protecting our state and industry, or we are not. Its a clear cut choice with a proven remedy that dates to 1798. NULLIFY NOW! Just Say No To the EPA!
We already have laws in place, enforce it not fix it.This is where the code word “comprehensive” reform. How many years have we been dealng with the promises of this issue ?It’s like closing the barn after all the horses are out,or the illegals (and Terrorist) are in.
This is GREAT! I’m not sure our biggest problem is over-stayed visas. In Central FL they drive in from GA.
Lightweight, AZ has proved, make them miserable, they leave! Which saves us money in every area.
Andrew, if anybody’s going to stand up to the Feds it’s this bunch! The rule goes into effect before they take office. I could never have said this before last week, but I’m confident they’ll take on the issue of our waters being controlled by our state.
Seems to b e part of Obama’s agenda to destroy all US farmer’s, not just ours!
I am opposed to immigration “reform” (amnesty). This country is overpopulated, and 21 million Americans are out of work.
There was a ceremony in Tampa yesterday to welcome 270 people from 56 countries to citizenship in the US. They took pix with the flag, their interviewers, the Statue of Liberty; they hugged anyone who would hug them back – they were happy to be here. We need the legislation, as Arizona has done, to send those who come in the back door, back to their countries. If they would like to become US citizens, let them go throught the same process these 270 happy people went through. Being a citizen of the United States is a priviledge, not a right.
