Representative Esteban Bovo (R) was one of several Florida Legislative members that was invited to a cozy meeting with Governor-elect Rick Scott in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Bovo told me that he was honored, humble and a bit suprised when he recieve the invitiatiion to meet with the Governor-elect. Bovo also added that he thought the meeting was “ unique and interesting”,and that is was refreshing to see the Governor reach out and afford him and the others the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns. ”Charlie never did that“
But the representative also stated, that now Scott had to deliver on the jobs that he has talked about this past election cycle. One of Bovo’s main focus in the next legislative session is the problem of property taxes. Like many others around the state, Bovo says,”property taxes are strangling people”, and come this next legislative session, he will be proposing a bill that will lessen the taxes bearing down on property owners.

what did he say about jobs?
Maybe the Jobs that Bovo is talking about are jobs that Bovo promised?? I thought Scott said he would help create the business atmophere that would allow business to create jobs. Like not creating jobs in the govt. Is Bovo talking about Obama style govt jobs?? If he is them he is barking up the wr0ng tree leaning on Scott.
Scott is a businessman. More and healthier businesses mean more and better jobs. Simple as that.
Looking at our Property Tax bill, I find it very odd that the market value of our home decreased from $253,000 in 2009 to $157,500 in 2010. However, the assessed value went from 148,000 to 151,800 and thefore the taxable value increased.
Our actual tax owed went from 1900 last year to 2200 this year. Most of the increase came from millage increase for public education.
Considering our local school board GAVE the superintendent in Lee County $340,000 as he walked away from a contract in October he had just agreed to in August, this does not all sit very well with me. I now resent every hard earned dollar going to education, sorry to say. I am tired of them whining about not having enough for the classroom and then wasting millions of dollars.
Maybe Rick Scott can come down to Lee County and knock together the heads of the school board members who paid a superintendent to break his contract?
Does anyone ever consider the example this corruption sets for students?
Is the lesson we want them to learn that you can game the system, your word means nothing, and there is no need for honor among thieves??????????
Save Our Home needs to be replaced by a sales tax increase and elimination of property taxes. Marco Rubio introduced and had this exact law passed in the Florida House. Charlie “RINO” Crsit blocked it. Mike Haridopolis opposed it.
Charlie Crist was already in the pockets of the labor unions. Haridoplis needs to be watched closely as he is a product of the unions – being a college professor and a union member.
Replacing all residential property taxes ELIMINATES COUNTY GOVERNMENTS FROM RAISING MILLAGE – NO INCREASES.
This is why the unions don’t want property taxes eliminated. They want local school boards and county commissio0ners to raise taxes to pay union employees so they can pay union dues.
If Florida had no property tax – we would be the only state in the union with no such tax. You buy a home – primary, vacation, income – under thjis provisioon and if you had no mortgage (like many retirees) – you would owe no one a single cent on the most important investment most people own.
Bove needs to copy the Rubio law. Florida needs to eliminate the residential property tax.
