West’s Decision to Run for President Not Up to Him, But His “Real Bosses”

February 23, 2011

by Javier Manjarres

Allen West for President!!!  Well, not so fast. Just last week, the Shark Tank opined that Allen West should be seriously considered for the Presidential ticket in 2012.  Subsequent to that op-ed piece was the confrontation that West had at a Pompano Beach townhall meeting with a CAIR official that is now a permanent part of Internet History.  Prior to that incident, a woman in the crowd asked Congressman West if he would run for President of the United States. West eloquently stated that “I have to prove myself, I have to prove myself as an statesman, as a capable legislator.” Congressman West then went on to explain how our country got into our current predicament:

“We got into this mess because we thought that leadership was about giving a very good teleprompted speech.”

West went on to say that he is focused on being the best congressman he can be, and that like anything else- like perhaps running for higher office- it would be up to God and his wife Angela, and West suggested that she ask her for an answer.  Being the intrepid finned reporter I am, I walked over to Angela and asked her if she would like to see Allen run for President in 2012.  Angela answered me, “Not right now, but…”

I admire Rep. West for his answer. However, was there any opening to the but… at the end of Angela’s answer? People were calling for Chris Christie to run for president soon after he took over as governor of New Jersey. What’s the difference?

  2. Sharon says:

Run, Col. West, run!! Your country needs you.

  3. Linda says:

Lt. Col. West is one (of two) of my choices for the GOP nominee. Yes, I know he feels committed to his constituents in FL 22, but if many of the people in his district would realize how much the country needs him, perhaps they could join in with so many others and convince him to run. We need a strong, principled candidate who wouldn’t be shy about challenging Obama on EVERY issue. The American people would easily see the stark differences and know they were looking at a true leader, not a puppet of Soros and the far left. The country cannot survive if we continue on this path to socialism and weakness in the world. We see the failures in Europe and now the unending turmoil in the Mideast. Please, get the message to Congressman West that as valuable as he is and will be in the US Congress, he is one of 435. As President, he could be THE ONE who will get this nation back to prosperity, dignity, strength and greatness again.

  4. Bonnie says:

God blesses us every day with exceptional individuals, Allen West being one. We respect Rep. West very much. May God bless him and may he stay true to his principles and values.

  5. FLChristyB says:

Unfortunately he is correct, he will have to prove himself first and put in the time as a Congressman. To bad he didn’t get his start a couple of years ago, he would be a shoe in for the Republican nomination.

  6. Preston says:

Lt. Col. Allen West is my HERO!! I live in FL District 22 and would love to share Allen with the rest of the Country. Our Country does need him. He is a man of Principle with Strength to Match! Run Allen Run…..

  7. Trent W says:

Would love to see West for Senate in 2012. Jennifer Carrol or Pam Bondi would also be good for the spot. The bench seems to be pretty deep on the Red side of the state.

  8. RPatR says:

I’ve been following Mr West since he was running for congress and have been constantly impressed with his intelligence, his style and his leadership abilities. He is a conservative just when this country truly needs a man with his beliefs. I also am very impressed with Mr Christie. These two men are cut from the same cloth and would be extremely pleased to see them both run. Maybe they could end up on the same ticket as #1 and #2. This would not make me unhappy at all.
Good luck Mr and Mrs West

  9. JayeMc says:

Please! Be our President in 2012. Please — we need you!

  10. Roberta says:

I am in agreement with Linda on this. We need leadership who understand the principles and reasons this great Country exists. Our founding fathers had a great passion and love for this US of A. They were very wise in providing us the tools to maintain or to change when deem necessary.
We are losing our Sovereignty. Patriotism is not popular. Our Children are not being taught the Constitution and many of our Legislators don’t seem to understand the division of power in the 3 Branches of our Government. Col West seems to have the knowledge and the courage to stand front and center about the issues facing us. More experience would be nice, but can we, as a country, afford to wait?

  11. betty says:

i really hope west will run and that he will not let me down. i want a president who is proud of this nation, who is a Christian, who wants limited government, understands the constitution, listens to the people – so far west meets all these but only time will tell.

  12. Rich says:

The wave of tea baggers and republicans got elected in to create jobs. What has the good Mr. West done to create one job or to do anything for working Americans to improve their lots in life? I don’t want Faux News talking points thrown back at me, what specifically has he proposed to do?
    Thank you

  13. Carol Recht says:

I am so proud of the Americans who have come forward to lead our country in these perilous times. We in South Florida are especially proud of Congressman West . He is extremely articulate about conservative principles. His devotion to country is obvious, and he unabashedly identifies the enemy we face. I can’t wait to see him in action in Washington. He is a member of a very strong bench. In time, the person ideally suited to challenge Obama and his socialist polices will emerge. I would be delighted if it were him.

  14. John H says:

As if the Illinois Senator who only knew how to vote “present” had to prove himself.

  15. Flagwaver70 says:

Why exactly do we have to wait until Congressman West proves himself? Look at the horrible quality of a POTUS we have now and he had been a Senator. So, folks, I completely disagree. Look at Congressman West’s record on the issues – what he has said, how he has said, what his positions on issues have been. He’s a fiscal conservative who isn’t afraid to speak his mind as he did with the CAIR individual. Facts at the ready – he didn’t have a teleprompter, Congressman West put that instigator in his place. Moreover, Congressman West LOVES America! That’s enough for me. He has my vote!!!

  16. Dominic Fazzoli says:

The Neo-Cons > are Alive and Well doing what there Masters the Sadistic Authoritarians and Suppressors want them to do…. leading the very ( Dumb little LAMBS ) to the Slaughter House so the Wolves can Sit back Laugh and Eat an effort-less Festive Dinner!!!

Hello, ” Allen West ” say Hi to the
    Republi-Crats / Republi-Cants / Republi-Ants

  17. JE says:

I wonder what Angela would have said after: but …
    But what?

  18. GenEarly says:

Dominic please try to form a coherent thought prior to typing. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

  19. Jeannie says:

The media talks about the long list of possible Republican candidates for President, and how perhaps there will be someone who is NOT on the “list” who will step forward.

I would be delighted if Allen West was to be that “step forward” guy!

My “dream ticket” is: Allen West / Scott Walker!

  20. TexasMom says:

This TEXAS MOM would vote for Allen West in a heartbeat! How about an Allen West/Paul Ryan ticket?

West has spent his life developing leadership skills and knows how to get subordinates who will give him good information. He doesn’t have an ego problem about thinking he knows everything, so he’s willing to ask for advice in areas that aren’t his strong suit.

If not a West/Ryan ticket, how about a Gingrich/West ticket? I want Lt. Col. West to be President now or later, preferably now.

  21. WTD says:

No longer residing in West’s current voting district, I hope to remedy that missed opportunity to vote for LTC Allen West in 2012 for President of the USA. Angela – hear our plea. Vote WEST 2012!!

  22. Debbie says:

I’d vote for him in a heartbeat!

  23. JohnF III says:

You can almost see the wet spot forming on the front of Rich and Dominic’s pants as they just contemplate the idea that their Imam might have to face a REAL American Hero in a Pres.election! I can’t wait to watch THAT debate!

  24. Marigold says:

How about a CHristie-West or vice versa ticket for ’12?

  25. Leonor says:

My hubby and I are very horored to attend an event this coming week where Rep. Alan West is going to be a guest speaker!!

  26. James Sharp says:

    Dear Congressman West,

The purpose of this letter is to respectfully ask that you please
consider making a run for the Presidency of the United States of
America in 2012. I have been a huge fan of yours since seeing the
video of your American Freedom Tour speech in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
in late-2009. My only regret is that I was not there to see you
in-person. I have watched your speech numerous times and have shared
it with all of my conservative friends, family members, and business
colleagues (multiple times). I have seen a number of your appearances
on television news shows and I watched your recent CPAC speech, also.
Although I reside in Florida, unfortunately, I do not live in your
    Congressional district.

Like you, and like a great many of our fellow Americans, I believe
that our nation is in deep trouble; we are sitting on the precipice.
The electorate was duped in 2008 by a slick-talking snake-oil salesman
that had nothing on his resume except “law professor” and “community
organizer”. We saw a candidate that had sat in a church and listened
to sermons by Rev. Jeremiah Wright and we were disgusted by what we
saw. President Obama was elected on his mantra of “hope and change”.
What we received was a steeper slide (correction: a plunge) into the
pit of nanny-state mentality. The health care bill that was rammed
down the throats of the American people early last year using
political chicanery and back-room, closed-door dealings is the nanny
state’s crowning achievement – an achievement that left a vile taste
in the mouths of a majority of the citizens.

My greatest fear is that in the coming twelve months, leading up to
the first presidential primaries, we are going to see a cadre of
potential Republican candidates of the same caliber as John McCain.
Not necessarily “bad” individuals, but bad candidates. Being a staunch
fiscal conservative, none of the names mentioned as viable candidates
excites me. Even with the country mired in the economic doldrums, I
believe that it is going to require a principled, true conservative to
unseat President Obama. It is going to take someone with your fire,
your drive, and, above all, your principles to motivate those on the
right to get out and vote. This was, in my opinion, Senator McCain’s
downfall and the reason that Obama won in 2008.

I fear for my country in nearly every aspect – economically,
culturally, and militarily. I feel that a large percentage of the
citizenry has lost its motivation – its drive to excel and to succeed,
hence the rise of the “nanny state” as epitomized by Obamacare. It has
been proven time and again over the centuries that the nanny state
cannot succeed. When the takers outnumber the givers, something has to
give (please pardon the play on words). I feel that our standing in
the world has been compromised by our immense debt as well as by a
foreign policy of making apologies for past actions of our country.
When other nations experience a natural disaster, America never fails
to lead the charge. The United States has helped to bring the shining
light of liberty to millions that once lived in the darkness of
tyranny. I see absolutely NO reason for America to apologize to the
world for ANYTHING; and I resent a president that has done just that.

It is going to take a dynamic, principled, motivated (and
motivational) individual to lead us out of this morass and I honestly
believe that YOU, sir, are that individual.

Please consider this letter as a plea – a plea to help to save our
Republic. I would consider it an honor to work on your behalf and do
hereby pledge work tirelessly for you if you decide to throw your hat
    in the ring.

God bless you and God bless America.

  27. [...] freshman Republican Congressman, Colonel Allen West, recently made it clear that he was not considering a run for the Presidency in [...]

  28. AI says:

Colonel West has already proven himself as a superlative leader in our military, for decades. He fully understands the threats faced by our country in the world today, and would know how to deal very effectively with those threats. He is someone we could count on to have the right foreign policy, unlike our present Jihadist-In-Chief whose only “foreign policy” is to bow and grovel before some of the world’s worst Islamists, while Americans and American interests fall by the wayside. I LOVE the way the very idea of West’s Presidential run has brought out a few drooling, frothing-at-the-mouth Lefty trolls on this site. West must have them scared sh*tless. I love it. Please, Congressman, West, consider serving your country one more time…as our President.

  29. Al from Fl says:

Congressman WEst is well spoken and ran a good campagn. However, it is premature for him to run on the presidential ticket. First we need to see what he is made of. By the way, congressman West, why did you not vote for the Blackburn-Jordan amendment for an additional $22B cut? Keep up the good fight.

  30. David Russell says:

While I echo the many nice things said above about Col. West, I do not believe he is yet ready to throw his hat in he ring. I think he is right that he needs the time to prove himself, to get to be well known, not just here in Florida, but on a much wider scale. Florida alone cannot elect a president. When he does decide to run I will be one of his supporters. But wouldn’t it be a gas to see another black man run against Obama and beat him? I wonder how the leftist media would manage to get racism into that race?

James Smart brought another point that I agree, should be a great fear to conservatives in this country, poor or bad candidates. The vast majority of those wannabes that are trying to build up head of steam, such as Huckabee, Gingrich, etc. are has- beens and part of the old establishment. There records are not that great, and they are professional politicians who need to gi ve it up and get a job in the private sector. For too long we have been electing, over and over again, professional poliiticians that like to go to Washington and homestead. That goe for McCain also. He should never have been nomiited to run by Republicans. The only reason I voted from him was because of Palin. West, Christie, Walker and some of the others that were put in office by the Tea Party and other conservatives fed up with the same ole crap need to work in their respective areanas and make a record they can run on before they jump into the pool. I agree that we need good candiadates with honesty and character, but getting into the race for president before they are ready could well kill their enthusiaism and ruin a chance in 2016.

  31. Alicia~~Ohio says:

I understand what Allen West is saying about proveing himself as a Florida Congressman, but, we cannot afford to have Obama win again in 2012 and he is determined to do so. He has already done a tremendous amount of damage to America a nd he needs to be stopped. I wish his wife Angela would encourage him to run for President in 2012, if she isn’t.

  32. Linda says:

Allen West and Marco Rubio are the “hope” and “change” we need to bring America back to the future! Obama ha been nothing more than hype and destruction. Let’s pay for these men—we need them!

  33. Linda says:

    Let’s pray for these men.

  34. I Have heard so much About Col,Allen B,West.
I almost feel like I was Raised with him..
But there are a couple of questions,I’m Bothered by .
Not the Military Investigation! But His association with the
    “Congressional Black Caucas”,
Who appear to be more interested in Black Racial Affairs.
    and Interest!,Than solving Americas Problems…
America!, Does Not Need Another Black Activist.
America Needs An AMERICAN PRESIDENT!,of the people, for the people,By the people!Constitutional President!.
One Who Will DEFEND America.Which,I Do Not Doubt.
    Allen West,Patriotism,His Record Speaks Openly!…
I Care not about his Skin Color!, “BUT”IS he an AMERICAN?..
    The other question I will investigate,And Report!….
