Tallahassee- Former U.S. Senator George LeMieux attended the Speaker Designation ceremony of future Speaker of the Florida House Will Weatherford and commented that he thought that Weatherford was a very intelligent and capable Legislator that will do great things in this political career. I caught up with LeMieux at the event and asked Senator LeMieux about his possible candidacy for the U.S. Senate, and he reiterated what we had said several months back that he was interested in running for the Senate in 2012. When I pressed him on when he would be announcing his run, a date that was previously mentioned to me, Senator LeMieux stated that, “your instincts are accurate”. Without divulging any confidential information shared with me, I would say that an announcement is imminent, and could come within a few weeks.
Senator LeMieux’s announcment would set him up against Senate President Mike Haridopolos and former House Leader Adam Hasner. Hasner has also expressed interest in running for the Senate, and had also stated that would be making a formal announcement in the next several weeks as well.
Senate President Haridopolos has come under fire of late over a controversial book deal from a few years back. Haridopolos purportedly received a handsome paycheck for writing a book that until it was sold on Amazon.com, only one copy existed. Eyes are also closely watching what will happen in the Florida Legislature, as Haridopolos’ voting record will be closely scrutinized by those who are weighing the merits of Haridopolos’ U.S. Senate campaign.

Rep Mack is also looking over a run, the way he is acting in our district. Rep Mack is not that strong a conservative, but he is trying to change that image.
Who do you think is the strongest Conservative contender?
Adam Hasner.

I agree with Suzi G. Of all the individuals named so far, he seems to have the least baggage. But, the week is still young.
I still want to learn more about Adam Hasner, heard him speak and I liked what he said.
I thought Senator Lemeiux did a fabulous job when he took over for Mel Martinez. He has my full support.
No more LeMieux. We have had enough of his RINO politics. He was just a puppet for Crist. Keep him out of Florida politics. Let him run on the democrat ticket.

Hasner for U.S. Senate!!!!!
Your article that former U.S. Senator George LeMieux intends to annonunce his candidacy for the other Senate Seat in the State of Florida really made my day. From my perspective we need as many hard line conservatives as we can get in the United States Senate.
ALLEN WEST for US Senate!!!!! Nuff Said. These other guys are squishy moderates at best or RINO’s at worst. Marco Rubio is “moderating” from his campaign, so I’m done with “establishment” Repubs.
I am a STRONG Conservative..and Rep. Connie Mack has voted just the way I have wanted him to vote. I don’t know where you are coming from TARPON…
If Connie SHOULD decide to run I would be working hard for him. We need two STRONG, CONSERVATIVES in both Senate Seats in Florida. Ben Nelson NEEDS TO GET PACKING!!! He is a Dingy Harry clone!!!
P.S. And YES…we need more like Allen West!!!
Stand up for our core beliefs and freedoms..AND stop the across-the-aisle stuff! No more spineless R.I.N.O.’s!!
Yes . just heard the same thing myself at a luncheon LeMieux was speaking at. I have my own theory .. Jeb Bush has been doing radio and much more “active” (Townhall on Marco Island etc) ..he has stated he will not run for President 2012 .. anyone else think he may run for the Senate Seat Nelson now holds and if he does others will pull out or put in a “minimul” campaign?
Connie Mack says the AZ immigration law is NOT what he wants to see in Florida. Senator Mack is NOT what I want to see in Florida. No more RINOs.
Several years ago I was visiting the capitol with a group from my hometown, meeting with our state reps. Charlie Crist met with us as well. Our guide warned us that Crist was a great student of whoever he was to speak with, that he would skillfully deliver a speech that would be exactly what we would want to hear, though not necessarily what Crist believed. The guide was exactly right. When he was elected Gov I hoped he would hold to the line that got him there, only to be disappointed. Unfortunately you still have to watch the politician’s wake, not just where his nose, or his speech, is pointed today.
BTW, our other senator is Bill, not Ben, though they both need to retire.
Former U.S. Senator George LeMieux for the short time he was in the U. S. Senate, I thought he had a very Conserative voting record! He will have my vote as I like a sure Conserative thing!!
Mack is a no conservative that is for sure. Anyone that co sponsored last year’s HR 5034 is not a conservative by ideas or ideals. And neither is Bucannan or Rooney who pretend to be conservative. All 3 need the boot. They are all part of the ruling class that needs to go. I think Lemieux did a great job . Let’s get him to return.
WTF, OVER… Somebody has had their head up their… oops, in the sand. This CSX Lobbyist was sent to DC for one purpose, to get the RAIL money for Cho Cho Charlie. Pepe Lepew was the only Republican to vote for the expanded Stimulus pkg., yet after voting for it, he railed against it in his speeches. Come on people pay attention to their actions instead of words… Pepe went on to co-sponsor the “Belligerence Act” which attacked almost every unalienable right held by a U.S. Citizen within the borders of the United States. Just by accusation, a U.S. Citizen could be held by the military and escorted out of country for interrogation, denied their Miranda rights and held indefinitely. It also abridged their right to a trial or use of the U.S. Court system. WAKE UP… This guy is a walking, Talking Terrorist in a suit (Quid Pro Quo Candidate). I wouldn’t vote for this guy to be the local dog catcher, everything he touches stinks to high heaven.
LeMieux does not return calls. not even when its on his cell phone. Why would I want to to support his run for senate. Its
very bad manners to ignore the very people who are trying to give him a leg up.
Haridopoulos would be the choice for conservatives. Also
Adam Hasner- & Jeb Bush Proven conservatives.
no,no, no…he is no conservative…he voted ‘YES’ during the lame quack session on the FOOD ACT bill…and actually started getting a very liberal, arrogant attitude…the conservative constituency blasted him on that and certain remarks he was making…NO TO LEMIEUX …not CONSERVATIVE…but a RINO…after all he was appointed by GOOFY NO LABEL CRIST!!!!
The article should have included a few important bills that LeMieux voted for. But one thing is clear, Charlie the tuna placed him in that temporary Senate seat. Which is reason for concern. I smell the hint of rotted fish. Conservatives have had enough of the no principled Rino’s in the party. The party, if it wants both the monetary and boots on the ground support, better not stand in the way again when a true conservative runs for office here in Florida. This senate seat is open for pickings, if the right conservative decides to run. $$$$ and boots on the ground!!!
I wouldn’t vote for LeMieux if he were the only candidate running because in my opinion, he is a RINO. At first, I thought he was pretty good, then the longer he was in the worse – more liberal/progressive his “decisions” became. I certainly hope someone else runs.
“Senator Lemeiux did a fabulous job when he took over for Mel Martinez” Huh?
He didn’t take over for “mel”, good old Mel walked out on his obligation to The People of Florida and chose the lure of lobbyist cash instead of his promised service. The only thing good about mel is that he is gone. LeMieux was the stooge Charlie placed there keep the seat warm. I’m not able to recall anything remarkable that he did in the Senate. We sure don’t need anyone who ever had any relationship with Crist anywhere near unbridled power over our rights.
Lemieux is a RINO! He voted for the end of the year last minute Gov’t take over of Agriculture Bill. We do NOT need anymore Senators from Florida that believe in Big Gov’t and justify it by saying “It is a good thing!” Let the people of FL decided what is best for them at the State Level like the Constitution was designed for it to be. Obamacare Bill Nelson must go but we can do better than RINO’s like Lemieux & Jeb Bush!
I, too, am a native Floridian; however, I support Senator LeMieux. Because Crist chose him to fill the Martinez seat, I expected LeMieux to be a Crist-clone. He was not. LeMieux is no RINO. He is a conservative as evidenced by his votes, which are available at Thomas.gov. Our family is happy to support LeMieux as Florida’s “junior” senator.
No more Bush-Crist or their regimes. How about Jeb Bush meeting with Obama in Miami? At least he didn’t hug Obama like Suntan Charlie did.
People have to realize the ruling elites form “families’ just like the mafia. The Bush Family is Progressive from the former Rockefeller Wing of the RINO Party that opposed Reagan. Papa Bush killed the Reagan Revolution and GW had to be fought on many issues by the conservative grassroots, not to mention the TARP Disaster bailing out the big banks.
Allen West is clearly not a part of this mafia! Can you say the same for Mack?, LeMieux is clearly a member, as well as the Tallahassee hopefuls. Even Rubio is appearing doubtful on immigration and may be in Jeb’s orbit of influence.
We rebelled and after a nasty fight elected Rick Scott as Governor. Does anyone really think Bill McCullom would be as Conservative in cutting State spending?
Allen West is a Free Man,a Conservative who speaks plain english, not politico speech, and clearly not a Bushie.
Anyone who runs should dissassociate themself from former house speaker Ray Sansom and State Senator Don Gaetz who are joined at the hip. Also anyone running for the senate needs to be careful not accept contributions from Sansom buddy Jay Odom.
LeMieux appears to be pro-amnesty which, I don’t believe is the kind of voice we need in Washington.
GenEarly, COMPLETELY agree with you on your posts. The Bushes were all progressives and when it became necessary to vote for one of them, I held my nose at the polling center. I would NOT vote for another Bush or Rubio. Rubio appears to be a do-nothing laissez-faire who used conservatives so he would be elected. Not going to happen again – UNLESS he starts DOING something in Congress besides collecting a paycheck and benefits..
The ONLY candidate I might consider would be Congressman Allen B. West! He’s a true American patriot, fiscal conservative, and is not behind the Politically Correct door to state the facts. Go Congressman West – I’d love him to run for President.
I’m not familiar with any wrong doing by Mike Haridopolos in the past. However, I must say that LeMieux IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE. HE IS PRO OPEN BORDERS LIKE JEB BUSH, and to me BOTH OF THEM ARE “RHINOS”.
You sound like a RAD “Republican Aligned Dixiecrat” who’s a person that’s registered Republican but acts nothing like the party’s founding father “Abraham Lincoln” but more like Jefferson Davis.
All I can say is that while LeMieux was in office I was never able to reach him or any of his staff members. He never never replied to any query I made. I never got as far as an answering machine and I called every phone number I could find. As far as I am concerned I wouldn’t vote for him. I don’t like his support of amnesty. I can’t stand Bill Nelson as he NEVER votes the way Floridians want him to vote, he just ALWAYS votes according to what Scary Harry tells him to vote. He needs to be gone from the Senate . The time has come. There are several other non – Rinos I could support
I so have to agree with all of the comments that outline the ties between George L and Crist. Crist rolled the dice and lost. Folks holding his coattails at that moment should suffer the same fate. If Allen West will not run for that seat we need to start courting good folks who will.
