Allen West Sides with Rick Scott on Welfare Drug Testing

June 7, 2011

by Javier Manjarres

Florida Governor Rick Scott recently signed a law requiring welfare recipients who receive subsidized disbursements from the state to be drug tested in order to qualify for or continue receiving those payments.  Applicants to welfare who test positive for illicit drugs will not be able to obtain the cash disbursements for one year, and if they fail the test a second time, they must wait three years before they can receive welfare checks.

“While there are certainly legitimate needs for public assistance, it is unfair for Florida taxpayers to subsidize drug addiction, this new law will encourage personal accountability and will help to prevent the misuse of tax dollars.”                              Governor Rick Scott

Other politicos are beginning to step up and lend their support to Governor Scott for signing the law.  At his most recent monthly town hall meeting in Broward County, Congressman Allen West agreed with Governor Rick Scott and said that he believes that the measure is “an incentive to get people off of it (welfare).”  West expressed great concern over the increasing numbers of welfare recipients throughout the country, citing the 40% increase in food stamp recipients and how government cannot continue to grow to meet this demand.

It is high time that a state has come forward in doing the RIGHT thing. Would like to see more states, mine included, following suit. I live in Alabama and I believe our new Governor is an upstanding man and would definitely sign something like this into law.

Americans need to know that Obama and gang spent $68 MILLION of taxpayer dollars to ADVERTISE to Americans the “SNAP” program. SNAP stands for “Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program” — friendlier sounding than food stamps, less stigma. I’ve heard the ads mutliple times on the radio — it practically begs you to call. You can have a full time job, etc, but if you’re “food insecure” you “may qualify.”

Well, I’m mortgage insecure. Where do I sign up for my free mortgage payments?!?

I work in FL’s largest grocery store (rhymes with Rublix) and I see more abuse of the SNAP program: people buy BEER, SUSHI, SHRIMP, STEAKS, JUNK FOOD, $25.00 CARVEL ICE CREAM CAKES, etc. I’ve even had two clowns joke about it; they both said (two separate people at different times) “This is on Obama, ha-ha.” My only response was looking them directly in the eye and saying “Not really.” LOOK AROUND THE STORE MORON; MOST OF US ARE WORKING FOR CHUMP CHANGE, PART TIME WITH NO BENEFITS WITH NO FULL TIME STATUS IN SIGHT, ALL BECAUSE ILLEGALS LOWER THE WORKING WAGE FOR AMERICANS! All that “cheap labor” is expensive for the taxpayer though, yet companies that like to claim they’re so reputable keep hiring illegals. The hypocrisy is unbearable to me!

I have to put up with this nonsense to keep my chump change job, which is another sore spot. The large grocery chain I work for is definitely hiring ILLEGALS WITH FAKE ID’S!!! Some don’t speak any English, or very little, and that’s a requirement (or was!) for getting citizenship! They cash their checks weekly at the store probably because they can’t legally open a bank account. Many get money orders to pay their bills and or send money via Western Union to their “home country.”

E-VERIFY needs to be passed and where was Gov. Scott and the GOP in FL?!? Silent, that’s where. They’re too busy worrying about losing the Hispanic vote, while they might want to worry about losing the conservative base white male vote!

**START USING E-VERIFY BEFORE ISSUING ANY TAXPAYER FUNDED BENEFITS LIKE SNAP, WIC, ETC!** A broader based bill would have done so much more, more quickly. Jobs are the magnet for illegals. No job, no reason to be here, see ya later. They will self deport within months! More spine in the GOP please! This is why I like and respect Rep. West — he recognizes the hugely ignored problem of illegal immigration and how it is impacting Americans on many levels. I encourage everyone to call Gov. Scott’s office and thank him for drug testing welfare recipients, but ask him why he was SILENT during the E-Verify debates in the last session?!? Silence is the voice of complicity. I no longer trust Gov. Scott and I voted for him!
