I think Marco is right on with everything he has done so far as Senator but except this. Marco, this is a losing issue. Move on!
Can’t have it both ways, Marco — make up your mind….either you
support the president or you don’t……can’t pick and choose the
issues. You have done well so far, don’t spoil it.
Sorry, Marco – you cannot pick issues at this point….either you
agree or disagree with what the president is doing. You have
done well so far, don’t spoil it.
sorry but now i will never vote for you again
I’m going to give Rubio the benefit of the doubt on this one. He’s right in saying we can’t pull out now – for all the reasons he indicated; HOWEVER he should have lambasted the prez for his arrogance and dismissal of the War Powers Act! Perhaps even move to modify the Act and make it more meaningful or more clearly defined – otherwise you’ll get what we got, an arrogant (so called constitutional scholar – yukyuk) doing as he damn well pleases!!!
It serve no purpose to be in Libya. It is just a money pit. No matter which side come out ahead they will still hate us. We need to be out now.
how can you support a president that is breaking the law
Marco, Marco, Marco….what the Hell were you thinking?? I have been following & supporting you since you exploded onto the political scene BUT your decision to fall in line with & support the Progressives, the “Good Ole Boys Club” and Obama, shows you as being weak & all too willing to do whatever it takes to fit in with the DC crowd…..just exactly what the Tea Party stands AGAINST! Sorry Marco, but your foolish decision to support a cause that the Tea Party and most of America is against, just lost my support
Too bad, I thought you had a very promising future in the Republican political field
I have been very pleased with your votes on issues; however;
I question this one. Joe is usually a pretty solid thinker..but at times he misses…and as for John McCain…he is a lost cause. Don’t go along with his thinking! He should have retired to his flower garden.
Sen Rubio is correct. The POTUS has put the Republic in a very bad position on this issue. Sen Rubio is looking out for all of us. Please pray for wisdom. It’s not as simple as “supporting the POTUS” Foreign policy has been completely bungled by this administration. We need a wise & Godly congress to deal with the damage.
Rubio is totally out of character and off base with his support of Obama violating the law with US intervention in Libya. We should have not gone into this mess in the first place without Congressional approval. Rubio needs to reconsider his approach without the likes of McCain and Liberman being his mentors.
Marco, you’re slipping. You’ve done fairly well so far, don’t mess up now. We have no business in Libya without Congressional approval and we’re losing more of our soldiers for no reason to benefit the USA. Wake up, Marco, listen to the people.
NATO was established to provide for the common defense of its member nations. No NATO nation was attacked by Lybia. Why is NATO fighting Lybia? If you think it was to prevent a massacre, I belive you are incorrect. I think it was an attempt by 3 politicians (Sarkozy, Cameron & Obama) to bolster their falling popularity invoking patriotic fervor.
I strongly support Senator Rubio in most of his actions but think he is misguided in this instance. Gadaffi is a third rate despot in a 10th rate country. He presents no danger to the U.S.
I believe we can call Obama to task without withdrawing from Libya. He continues to blatantly disregard our laws and Constitution. Those who support such acts will be the first to scream when we lose all our constitutional rights.
As an enthuastic supporter I am disappointed that you have compromised your principals and joined ranks with the John & Joe Club on this issue. The law is the law unless ended by the Supreme Court on Constitutional grounds and should be enforced. The President has consistantly exceeded his authority and evaded the Congress which should hold his feet to the fire on this and his “Czars” that operate with immunity from Congressional authority.
You are what this country needs and I hope that you do not blow the reputation you have earned over this issue.
RAB/Tampa
Take the problem apart. That is what the Senators did, and they addressed the part that is most dangerous to the Libyan people. The House of Representatives did, and they addressed the part that protects the Constitution and us against a President who chooses to demonstrate his power to show off to other heads of state, particularly on the left. Now we the people have to do likewise. We have to wait for our elected representatives and senators to attend to the Constitutional part. We start from the only real proven, time tested, ground truth we know. Gadhafi will kill people because they want self rule. The President acted legally but then continued to act beyond his legal authority. In doing so, he may have set up the Muslim Brotherhood to become rulers of Libya, and they will kill the people that Gadhafi does not.
Do you get it yet? We have been royally set up.
Another republican should call Marco Rubio off to the side, tie his shoes and wipe the snot off his lip and explain to the Senator there has never been any evidence in history of Kaddaffi being opressive to his people. If he searched he would learn that the Lybian leader is loved by his people and takes care of his people better than any of the Islamic countries of the Middle and Far East.
Marco needs to understand this is not over throwing Castro. This is Irans Muslim Brotherhood over throwing M.E and Far East ledaers in order to put in place leaders that will have united M.E against Israel.
Marco Rubio needs to be Censured. He is causing a security threat for America.Maybe another senator can pin a towel on the back of Senators Rubio’s shirt so he can run around the Capitol pretending he can fly.He is such an embarrisment, but this is what you get when you promote false create an image. He won the primary with 84% and no one knows who the 2 candidates were who ran against him.He did not have a primary debate because he would have to ask real questions and his record be exposed. This is why Talk Radio is only Talk. They have flushed this country promoting the GOP.
Marco needs to read Zechariah 2:8
I understand Marco’s point of view. But, we have no idea who the rebels are! This may come back to bite us! I am with Congress on this one!
I will not break the chain of disappointment and dismay expressed in this thread, but add a few obseravtions:
–Tea party conservative or not, opposition to Obama on Libya is based on committing the country to yet another military action without articulating clear objectives flowing from US strategic interests: this alone should have been a disqualifier for support on the Libyan war from Sen. Rubio;
–The humanitarian, Semantha Powers argument embraced by Obama does not wash when the Obama administration has been indolent on the massacres in Syria, where the administration just a few weeks ago was still talking about Assad as a reformer–they sought cover by citing senatorial assessments of Assad-as-reformer, but they embraced the concept. They were mute on the violence in the steets of Syria until it was no longer tenable and then called for sanctions on which no progress has been made. Obama has not done anything about the long-standing genocide in Darfur and, closer to home, he pays only lip service to the human rights disaster that is Cuba (which should have special meaning for Sen. Rubio). In other words, Libya is “low hanging fruit” for Obama to cultivate his military leadership and national security bona fides. Needless to say, Sen. Rubio should not assist Obama in such naked politicizing of foreign affairs and the use of the military.
–On Tea Party grounds, there had better be clear, direct national security interests involved to justify a further depletion of resources (and potential life-and-death danger to military personnel) or the Lybian action, even without troops on the ground, is illegitimate.
–On the War Powers Act, leaving aside the minutia of constitutional arguments and the tug-of-war between the Executive and the Legislative branches, there has been a tradition of consultation by presidents with congressional leadership–a tradition observed by Bush but not by Obama (who framed the legal basis of his Libyan campaign in his–HIS– consultations with the UN, NATO and the Arab League; in other words, everybody except the elected representatives of the American people). On Tea Party grounds, again, this is unconscionable.
–On purely political grounds, associating with McCain, Lieberman and Graham is BEWILDERING and hazardous to the future political health and viability of Sen. Rubio as a politician who has enjoyed the suppport and good will of conservatives. The triagulation value of this move–assuming cynical motives, which would be a departure from the way we think about Sen. Rubio–is questionable. This alliance redounds to the benefit of that troika and not the other way around. As a rookie senator, Sen. Rubio should consolidate his standing with conservatives and build his national support outside that group with non-Cuban Hispanics and (more) conservative or moderate Democrats on questions relating to the debt and deficits. Throwing in his lot with two largely discredited Republicans and one push-me-pull-you Democrat, even on just this issue, has shown that the man we’d like to think walks on water actually can step into a muddy puddle (what’s next: bridge-building with Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins and Scott Brown?).
–This episode raises questions about the foreign policy advisors on which Sen. Rubio is relying.
Rubio,
Pick your battles, but NOT this one !!!!
We are disappointed on your stand.
I cannot believe that Rubio is supporting an illegal act by Obama. What is Libya to us that we would shed American blood. I do not think I will vote for Rubio ever again. Teaming up with McCain?? A Rino!! and supporting Obama?? I think the conservative has swung moderate. And he won because he was strongly conservative.
Sorry Rubio, no more votes from me.
Some times Rubio does something right but much of the time he is just using the tea party label of conservative, especially when he is now teamed up with McCain and Lieberman, two liberals. Rubio is turning out NOT to be the fair haired boy wonder.
Gadaffi does pose a threat to the U. S. in that, as Sen. Rubio suggested, pulling out would signal the rest of the middle east that we are not serious about securing freedom for people now suffering under despots. I don’t believe he supports Obama because he believes we should be in Lybia, but because Obama has screwed up our foreign policy so badly that, unlike a lightbulb, it can’t be unscrewed under this administration. It is an effort on his part to support the vision even if the administration’s strategy is flawed.
We don’t belong in Libya. I was just beginning to like Marco but he is losing me here.
Rubio has shown his stripes. He’s a fake and we’ve been duped again. We have no business in Libya supporting the Muslim Brotherhood like we did in Egypt.
Here’s how this will play out, the same as it did in Iraq and Egypt. Gadaffi is deposed and killed, the Muslim Brotherhood or some other extremist group will take control, then the killing of Christians will commence.
Yes, America, we are supporting Muslim extremists who will kill Christians in our name and Rubio supports it.
I will never vote for Rubio again….fool me once…….
Never again!
This is what will happen in Libya:

Obama’s father was Kenyan and a British subject. This fact should positively disqualify Barack from being President. Even more should be falsifying a copy of his birth certificate which is a criminal Federal act and an affront to our Constitution, and to our American values. The document he presented to the American people has been found to be a forgery by experts in the field, go to: http://bearwitness.info/BIRTHCERTIFICATECENTRAL.aspx for information. We should not allow this man to get away with this crime and such an outrageous act of dishonesty. However, I see this as a God sent opportunity to disqualify him from running in 2012. I believe next year will be too late. If he runs he will be reelected, period. Guaranteed. These communists do not abide by our Democratic electoral laws. They will cheat, steal, lie, accuse us of racism, create class envy and misinform the American people with the full collaboration of the Media. They will not peacefully hand over the White House. The White House is their ”Holly Grail” and they will not give it up without some down and dirty fight. Republicans know we can’t fight at their level, so we’ll loose.
We can disqualify him now, this year before it is too late. Four more years of his Administration will destroy our country. No more regrets, let’s do it now! Do not stop talking about this! Call Congress, send faxes please tell everyone!
God save us!
Reading these comments is almost like watching TV or listening to Talk Radio. All the talking points but not a whit of sense.
Firstly, who gives McCain and Lieberman get their marching orders? and by extention now Rubio? (don’t forget the Keating Five)
Secondly, two countries (Lybia and Iraq) that wanted to use currencies other than the US Dollar where attacked post haste by the powers (US/NATO/UN). Then each of those new pupit govts set up a central bank which used the USD as reserve currency as one of the first things they did. A third country (Afganistan) is a world leader in the production of heroin since the US led “coalition of the willing’s” pupit govt took over. Under the former govt (taliban) they exported almost no heroin. (Reminds me of the drug influx during the Viet wars.) All of these wars were started for dubius reasons involving the CIA and “secret” intelligence.
Thirdly, Funding for the Lybia assault comes not from the budget but from the ESF(Emergency Support Fund- controlled by the Sec of Treasury of the US.) the ESF is a fund who’s sole function is to support the power of the dollar.
IMHO the world banking guys got to Rubio on this one. Just the one mistake with these guys is like taking a loan from a loan shark. You never get out.
The RP in florida needs a shake out. A completely new set of candidates who are in no way tied to the status quo and will represent their voters. Senators are a big problen because they have so much power and can be pushed to victory with the monumental weath of the banks and wallstreet. The US Senators need to be elected by the state congress and held to standards or be removed.
Bring back the Constitution.
disclaimer–I voted for Rubio
I think the Senator is wrong on his decision to support Obama. Does he not know the Muslin Brotherhood is trying to take control of the middle east? Once in power they will control the oil and they are certainly not friendly to the US. Iraq should have never been invaded because the US kept them at bay and Iraq kept Iran at bay, Mubarak was a dictator but not a threat to US and had an agreement with the US to leave Israel alone., When the Muslim Brotherhood completes the complete takeover we could face a combined force we cannot control because some of the countries do have nukes, Sometimes the cure is worse than the ailment. So I say to Senator Rubio be careful wwhom you are backing at least we know Kadiffi.

Our involvement in Libya is just the kind of far-fetched lunacy that gets us hammered whenever we try it. It is an open-ended, can’t see the enemy, can’t see the friends, don’t know if we’re winning muck-up that just goes on and on and expands in death.
It is clear that we are supporting elements of Al-Qaeda that are also fighting Quadafi. It is also clear that he posed zero threat to the United States. He was also stabilizing, not unstabilizing, to the region
If there was ever a time to DO NOTHING, surely this was the time.
Instead, Obama creates a mess where there was none.
Inexplicably, Rubio supports this. I thought TEA Party members thought more clearly regarding foreign interventions.
