Nelson’s Re-Election Strategy- Distract from Record, Pose as ‘Voice of Reason’

A funny thing happened to Senator Bill Nelson. Once considered the type of Democrat who was best suited to win a statewide election here in Florida because of his “moderate” political orientation and his unobtrusive, grandfatherly demeanor, his Democrat Party was hijacked by “progressives” pushing a far more radical agenda that has charted the federal government a course to certain bankruptcy while simultaneously resisting all Republican opposition efforts.  It’s an agenda that Nelson possibly would not have instinctively championed himself, but he has nonetheless become its reliable supporter.

Now less than a year away from the 2012 general election, Senator Nelson has little interest on running what he’s actually accomplished during his term- a record that shows him supporting President Barack Obama’s radical and regressive agenda 98% percent of the time.

Nelson knows that Floridians remember his support of the failed “Stimulus” program, the deeply unpopular federal government takeover of health care with “ObamaCare”, and now with a massive tax hike masquerading as a “jobs bill”, Nelson is painted into a corner he’s desperate to escape.

Nelson’s re-election strategy is now apparent.  Rather than touting his record in the Senate, he’s attempting to distract from it by taking shots at some of the more controversial measures of Governor Rick Scott by raising unfounded concerns about “restrictive” voter laws on one hand while posing as the “voice of reason” in Florida politics and insisting that we all return to “civility” in our political discourse-

”People are so rigid, they are in their ideological boxes they won’t move and it is my way or the highway. The people of our country are fed up with this nonsense. I tell you I am fed up with it. It is frustrating.” – Senator Bill Nelson

There are a number of criticisms that can made of Nelson’s take on today’s political climate, but let’s start with the most obvious one- Senator Nelson has been a reliable vote for the most the most rigid, ideological American President ever- a counterproductive ideology that is hell bent on fully instituting socialism, crony capitalism, malinvestment, and political money laundering within the federal government while simultaneously hamstringing the private sector and job creation.  It’s too bad Nelson didn’t withhold his support of this kind of “ideological rigidity” back in 2009 and 2010.

It never ceases to amaze how blind so many Democrats are to the reckless and coercive nature of the agenda they intend to inflict on the country.  For Nelson to bemoan “ideological rigidity” at this juncture demonstrates a complete lack of self-awareness at the very least, and more likely, disingenuousness.  Yes, politics is becoming more polarizing- that’s because the divide between the agenda of “progressive” Democrats and those Americans calling for a restoration of essential constitutional precepts and fiscal sanity is becoming wider every day.

As to those “restrictive” voter laws that Nelson is worried about– you know, the kinds of laws that attempt to stop dead people, illegal aliens, convicted felons, and individuals who commit other types of voter fraud by either voting more than once or engaging in identity theft- Nelson has pivoted his rhetoric towards those.  Nelson is calling on highly compromised U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to review Florida’s new Voting rights law under the federal Voting Rights Act- this is the same Attorney General who didn’t view two baton-wielding Black Panthers standing outside a polling location as constituting “voter suppression.”  There is little chance that Holder’s investigation won’t find that the law passed by Governor Scott and the Florida legislature “suppresses” voting, as Democrats have come to conveniently redefine the term.

Whenever Democrats call for “civility” these days, cue the laugh track.  It’s either a sign that Democrats have lost the debate or are attempting to get Republicans to drop their vocal opposition Obama’s toxic agenda.  If Nelson was truly desirous of “civility”, why then become an unwavering supporter of the most divisive agenda ever inflicted on the American people in modern times?  Didn’t it ever dawn on him that cramming such an agenda down the throats of Americans without their support would provoke a strong counter reaction?

Nelson has watched the political ground substantially shift beneath his feet during the course of his two terms in the Senate.  No longer can he pose as the defender of Florida’s Space Coast and its Space Program, as now that the shuttle program has been scrapped, Nelson has now become the Space Coast’s resident nostalgist rather than its advocate. Nelson is personally very affable, but his lack of a core set of political beliefs and his own political expediency is why he transitioned from a “moderate” Democrat to that of a rubber stamp for an agenda that is rapidly eroding our rights and our prosperity- it’s that for which he must be held to account in 2012.

Bill Nelson is not fooling me or anyone else who keeps up with the political scene. And I totally ignore any glowing reports the press may give him because they are about 85% liberal minded. I simply look at his voting record and IT STINKS! He is a died in the wool liberal who is being pushed into the Progressive movement whether he likes it or not. He won’t like hearing this but I feel the only way he will save his long term career is to become a Republican or an Independent. But to do that he needs to grow a pair. Can he?

    • GenEarly says:

Even the Florida Rino’s wouldn’t have Nelson in their party. And you won’t find “a pair” in that Repub Club anyway. The Tea Party and Constitutional Conservatives is the only hope we have in 2012. Understand, with the Financial Tsunami coming in 2013 our chances are slim to none; Even with a Conservative Political Revolution.

I have said it time after time! This “Idiot” who represents the whole State of Florida has to be VOTED out of Office, Here & NOW!! If he “represents” the Space Coast so “diligently”, why was this Space Program, that continues to be in our budget, moving more & more to Houston & California? Because of this “Rubber-Stamping” Idiot of a typical long over the limit Representative of the State, namely as a Senator, who was once a US Congressman, who made sure that he was “added” to the Space Program BECAUSE, he was the Representative of the Space Coast!! Put this useless bag of wind in a Space capsule & send him to the Space Station, to “Represent” that “Out of this world” District!! Thank You and a Devout get Rid of Nelson By ANY means Voter & Combat Veteran of the USA!!

  3. CaptTurbo says:

Bill Nelson is a moron. I write to this Jack-Wagon about once a week on the issues (of which he is always standing on the wrong side) and his canned replies always explain why I am wrong and his Communist stance is right. Infuriating!

Lately, I have included a suggestion that he not reside so deeply in the great usurper’s pocket as the funky fumes are obviously getting to him. He doesn’t have a canned response for that one.

This Socialist prick has to go in 2012 and the elections can not come soon enough to get rid of trash like Bill Nelson.

  4. Rick says:

Thank You “CaptTurbo”! I was beginning to think I must one of the only people who thinks that Bill Nelson is an Idiot!!He said he was not “Campaigning” yet because he really believes he has this election in the bag, already! I hope that the Republican Party will quit their in Party bickering and support 1 person to take this long overdue Senator out of office. Just think of the $$$ he will receive from his “Retirement” representing us in Florida?? Ridiculous, isn’t it?

  5. CJ says:

I wrote Mr. Nelson yesterday regarding his missleading and hyperbolic email on FL voting laws. It is not remotely possible that a law applied equally to every registered voter in the state can be prejudicial.

  6. Tom Sullivan says:

Nelson is not stupid, he is dishonest about the extreme liberal/socialist agenda of Democrats and his 98% support for it. Now we will see if Florida voters are stupid enough to re-elect him. I think not.

Take heart. Only one Democrat president has been re-elected since 1944 – Bill Clinton. (One one Republican president has failed re-election – Bush1.) Obama’s defeat will help bring down the leftists enablers like Bill Nelson.

Great article, Lone Shark! First met Bill at the opening of EPCOT back in ’82. Back then he was more typical of Florida Dems…much more fiscally and socially conservative. Seemed like a “nice” sort…although misinformed on many things; especially with respect to gov’t spending. Wife, Grace, seemed very nice too.

Fast forward 25+ years and this a$$-hat has been sucking at the government teat for so long he’s turned into an loony, off-his-rocker Progressive. Even my mother, who worked on one of his earlier campaigns (due to his wife), calls this guy a socialist and out of touch.

Whoever is his final Republican opponent can count on my time and treasure to ensure Bill rejoins the private sector permanently.

  8. Nelson is Your Typical Career Politician. Or, why we have a $14 trillion debt http://www.posterchildrenfortermlimits.com “… obtained his law degree in 1968 after which he went to work for then governor Reubin Askew. He was elected to the House… for six terms from 1972 to 1991 and ran for governor in 1990 and lost… Then he ran for Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner in Florida and won two terms before running for the U.S. Senate where he has been ever since.

Again, fitting the profile in not having any real life experience in the productive private sector. Nelson as all professional politicians are the problem, not a solution. He is among “the worst of a bad lot.” Check the site for more of his story.

George, You, too, must be a Floridian Voter!! I have never ever Voted for Bill Nelson for ANYTHING!! Never have liked the man as a politician or as REAL working citizen of the State of Florida!!I feel my votes kept him from becoming Governor, but I did not ever think he would be so fortunate to become Senator & keep his useless government job status going. Never thought it would happen.
A Florida Born Voter & Viet Nam Vet (did Bill Nelson ever serve this great country of our’s? Or another Bill Clinton & Obama??)

  9. GenEarly says:
