The Santorum Surge

December 30, 2011

By Javier Manjarres

The latest polls coming out of Iowa have former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum firmly in third with 16% behind Mitt Romney’s 23% and everyone’s favorite angry congressman, Ron Paul who has 22%. Santorum’s surge is very telling in that it signals that evangelicals are actively engaged in Iowa, as their support for the other two ‘faith-based’ Republican presidential candidates, Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry is also evident.

Simply put, Rick Santorum is solid. We have said in the past that the key to winning in Iowa, South Carolina, Florida, and ultimately the Republican nomination will be to lock down social conservative vote. Santorum is spot on when he addresses the volatile nuclear Iran, and lays out the consequences that it would have on Israel, and the United States. Santorum has also sided with Congressman Allen West in supporting an Israeli preemptive strike against Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Admittingly, I get a kick everytime during a presidential debate that Santorum lays into Ron Paul and schools him over foreign policy. Video-Santorum slams Ron Paul

While many would-be voters are starting to see Santorum as an electable ‘other than Romney’ choice for President, it is still too early to tell if Santorum will be able to sustain this momentum, and be able to raise the money to surge in the upcoming primaries. And let’s also remember that these are just polls, the Iowa caucuses are still a few days away and anything can happen.

I will never support Rick Santorum. I just can’t get over taking the dead baby home to show the siblings. It is just too weird.

    • Kelly says:

Really Nita? If your choice is between Obama and Santorum? Let’s see, Rick attempts to achieve closure with his children over the traumatic loss of a sibling and Obama has never met a pro-abort piece of legislation he could not enthusiastically endorse, including the blocking of a bill that would have protected children who miraculously survive a botched abortion attempt.

Santorum values the precious life of every human being. Obama loves death. If we elect this clown again, we deserve everything that will follow — the complete demise of the greatest nation on earth.

      • Nita says:

        Kelly -

The choice will never be between Santorum and Obama. We are talking about the primary here. Santorum will never get that far.

        • Kelly Cook says:

Nita, your confidence in who will not be the nominee is amazingly naive. With the current volatility of the polls, just who ends up on top is anyone’s guess. The fact remains that at least 75% of the primary voters are searching for anyone but Romney. This dynamic will produce some very interesting twists and turns. I was talking about the primary. If Santorum is the nominee, you really wouldn’t vote for him over Obama??? Wow. Flush the country because you disagree with him on one point. Amazing.

  2. Boca Spin Doctor says:

    Google Santorum.

  3. Amused with Javier says:

    Javier,

Your obvious big-party mentality is all too evident in the perpetual slamming of Ron Paul. That, or your writing creativity is lacking. “Everyone’s favorite angry congressman, Ron Paul”, come on. Do you really believe you are winning anyone over with your Republican bias? I realize Ron Paul doesn’t fit your nation-building plan, but in case you haven’t noticed, that’s not working out so well for us. Ron Paul is the only one talking about the Central Planning/Central Banking establishment that have created the mess we are in, and I know that scares you establishment clowns.

All that to say, your website has stooped to new lows in the past few weeks. I think you should fire yourself and hire some independent thinkers, not yes men like you. Happy New Year!

    • I.e. independent thinkers who are willing to support the anti-semite, Islam-ignorant, conspiracy-minded, willfully blind “Wrong Paul”. Really, that’s what it’s all about here, isn’t it?

Ron Paul is a racist loon and a member of the anti war left. His paulbot followers are the dirtbags of society. And Santorum would make a fine president.

  4. We need jobs says:

The latest polls from Iowa show Santorum at 15% and Perry at 14%, so if Santorum is surging so is Perry. Why are the media not covering the Perry surge? Because they know Perry has the funding and infrastructure to win in the long run and Santorum doesn’t. The goal is to keep Conservatives divided and give us their choice: Romney for our nominee. Rick Santorum is a good man, but Rick Perry is the better choice to go the distance. Please consider giving your vote to Governor Perry. He has a great record on jobs, cutting spending, and will secure the border. It is time to consolidate the Conservative vote and deny the establishment their pick “Romney”. We need a Conservative to beat Obama.

  5. Doc says:

Santorum seems to be a great candidate. He is another family man, good moral values, a good conservative, he would make a good president. However, doubtful that he can win, for exactly those reasons. Researching past presidents since 1954, you will find that all have either been members of the Trilateral Commission or Council of Foreign Relations. If the President had not been a member (very few), then their cabinet was constructed of members of those organizations. Since Santorum is a clean living American family man of high moral values, it is doubtful he would agree to the procedure of being handed a short-list of possible cabinet members to choose from. I would assume that Rick would prefer to create his own cabinet from quality Americans with various specialties. So I would assume that Santorum’s surge should be enjoyed for the present, and then the “rightful candidate” will emerge for the election.

  6. Betty says:

I pray Allen West will decide to run. Lord we need this man in the white house like about 4 years ago.

  7. Chopper says:

We have to beat the current occupant of the White House! My concern is how can a man who can’t get re-elected Senator in his home state get elected President in a national election.

Rick Santorum surges in Iowa due to the support of the ”Tea Party”

Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney are tied in a very close race to win the Iowa Republican caucus. And the lesson that was learned in 2010, was once again on display in 2012. People constantly talked about how well financed and organized the Romney and Paul campaigns were, but us tea partiers turn out to vote!! And elections are decided by votes, not by who has the biggest staff or the largest war chest.

Site polling showed that Santorum received the most tea party votes. Iowans that were seeking ”a candidate with high moral character” also made Rick their top choice.

So what happens now? I see Mitt winning in New Hampshire and Newt or Rick taking down South Carolina. That leaves Florida as the key state in this race. My home state is Florida and I am active in politics as part of Tea Party Fort Lauderdale so I will give my opinion of who will win in Florida, and why.

The tea party movement is very strong in Florida. And the 2010 election results will show that. Tea party favored candidates knocked off well funded establishment Republican candidates in every primary race from governor(Rick Scott) to senator(Marco Rubio). This is also the state that gave Herman Cain the big bump with his Orlando straw poll win.

I think the race will be down to four candidates by then. Romney, Gingrich, Paul and Santorum. I will review all four candidates.

Mitt Romney will do well with seniors, but being ”the establishment favorite” is normally the kiss of death in Florida. Just ask Charlie Crist.

Newt is very bright and will hold his own here. And I see him and Mitt fighting it out for second place.

A racist loon like Ron Paul will not win in Florida. Unless they change the primary rules to let Al-Qaeda members vote.

That leaves Rick Santorum. Florida is the type of state where you want to be the ”three legged stool of conservatism” that Ronald Reagan talked about. The tea party in Florida tends to be really conservative about social and national defense issues . IT ALSO OVERWHELMINGLY VOTES REPUBLICAN!!!! And Rick Santorum is exactly the type of candidate that conservatives in Florida will support.

With Perry and Bachmann dead I can see the majority of those conservative voters going over to Santorum. And with a Florida win, I think that Santorum will pick up all the financing and organizational staff that he needs to win the Republican primary.

    SANTORUM IN 2012!!!
