The international entertainer Maria Conchita Alonzo has been mentioning these threats from Venezuela as well. The media doesn’t seem to listen.
The USA had similar troop reductions prior to WWII, Korea, during the mid-1970′s, and during the early/mid 1990′s. Each time, conflicts were the result, requiring U.S. involvement.
A strong offense seems to be our best defense.
Do you really believe that we couldn’t flatten Venezuela in a heartbeat if we needed to?
Of course, they’re becoming more and more aligned with China, so we might have to ask permission from China to do so.
Giving up our manufacturing base to foreigners has made us weak and none of you seem to grasp that.
We couldn’t fight a war against a major power because we are no longer self-sufficient like we were in WW II.
We don’t even make most of our own steel anymore!! If we had to fight a war against China we couldn’t win because we’d have no supplies. We sold out our country for money. All for cheap goods to make the Wal-Marts of the world rich and our workers poorer.
Time to bring manufacturing jobs home so we can be strong again.
Why isn’t the good Mr. West championing these issues? Of course he might upset his corporate campaign contributors/bribers and that would be bad with an election coming up.
If the media admits that Venezuela is a threat, to include the potential terrorist training and staging there, they have to admit a failure of the Obamination from an America perspective,. though certainly a success from the standpoint of compromising our nation and standing. All part of the Obamanation program!
I find that I agree with almost all your positions. Well perhaps all that I have heard. Or read.
For military men past and present, budget cuts and troop cuts are part of the growth cycle of this nation. Some more hurtful to present day staffing and part of our nations need to balance expenditures.
Now the hard part, we all must share is this effort. No police or firemans, or teachers job is any more important than that of a serving patriot. That said, equal justice in the reductions is mandated to be honorable. This same consideration is required when looking at agencies and departments within and without of the public governance for reduction or elimination. Which may mean closing of bases and operations here and abroad, i.e. Japan, Korea, Germany etc.by the hundreds of thousand of troops and service support personnel.
With the 10′s of thousands of civilian service personnel employed in the seemingly endless “groups” of employees, the military can not be the “whipping post” for the current administration. A balance is required. It is the principle of the thing required to save this nation.
This is a lonely job and I wish Congressman West a heartfelt wish to give his all to the current battle, as is his past.
“Every difference of Opinion, is not a Difference of Principle”- Thomas Jefferson
Even a Boy Scout can analyze our detrimental lack of military strength vs peace. But then, our Grand Leader was never a boy scout or a veteran.
He was and is in fact the friend of terrorist , foreign and domestic, and those terrorist have in fact been active on foreign soil since he took office! And were active domestically in helping him to get “elected”. I speak of the ayers/dorne combo for one and of the union thugs, Acorn , etc.
Ten more months of madness, then we will cash in with our votes and restore the USA to its world power position.
You idiots don’t want to pay for it!!
Maybe none of you ever paid attention to Economics 101 but it is fiscally impossible for a nation, any nation, to decrease its’ revenues and fight a war at the same time, let alone two wars.
Are you all to stupid to understand this basic principle?
If former President Bush was any kind of a leader he would have had the balls to tell us that we had to sacrifice to fight the wars but he knew or at least someone around him knew that if we were forced to sacrifice for the neo-con adventures they would lose support in a heartbeat.
If any of your parents are still alive that experienced WW II ask them about the sacrifices that the civilian population made for the war effort. Ask about the massive War Bond drives to PAY FOR THE WAR. President Bush was not a leader with the guts to do this, sorry to burst your bubbles but this is the way it is.
We wouldn’t be having half the issues we’re having now if he’d have been man enough to tell us we had to give up the tax cuts for the war effort, Grover Norquist be damned!!
Don’t any of you grasp this?
I grasp that Obama continued the war for all these years and failed to capitalize on therm while increasing the debt more than all previous presidents combined, and they were to the best of my knowledgeall legal, that is constitutionally qualified to hold the office. You over simplefy eco 101! It was the industrial build up of WWII that made this nation an economical power with all its industrial spinoffs and built up foundation. Do not try to bullshit an economist about Econonics 101! It was the great societyu that has eroded it, along with oppressive taxation and regulation, which drove the prosperity abroad. This nation would have bankruped long ago if not for the worldwide nature of the economy which allowed us continued access to cheap goods!
Want to reduce the budget deficit? Close the State Department and get rid of the waste in our foreign aid programs (USAID).
Start a new State Department, recruit all new employees, starting with the janitors and ending with the Secretary of State. There are enough loyal americans looking for jobs.
Flush out all the communists that control the department.
Can you say “McCarthy”?
Please name all the “communists” and prove that they are communists, OK?
I guess neo-con fascists see “communists” under every desk, don’t they?? Are your John Birch Society dues paid up?
You’re a joke!!
Of course there are marxists and facists in government, and they have been there a long time. Look around you, promoters of an entitlement society with the citizen’s owning no property (marxism). The nationalization of industries (GM, Chrysler), the banking system (Dodd-Frank Bill), electric power, and agribusiness by the government (facism). Congresswoman Maxine Waters verbalized her socialist tendencies on national TV (check youtube). People are entitled to their own viewpoints, this is America. Small point, marxism and facism are on the political extreme left in America, and libertarianism and anarchy are on the extreme right. In Socialized countries such as Europe, the designation is marxism on the left, and facism on the right. So calling right leaning republican a facist in America is a contradiction.
A mere pitance of our overall expendatures, though I agree we should funnel aid to our friends and stop trying to buy our enemies!
With a rabid, dying dictator with nothing to stop his increasingly erratic actions it is not so far fetched to look for missiles from South America.
My generation remembers hovering on the edge of nuclear war when Cuba built bases just off our coast.
A perceived military weakness on our part stokes the fuel of the American hate mongers. A true weakness would allow pre emptive strikes to go unanswered while we scramble to rebuild.
It takes an apologist for America’s military history like Obama to lead us down this path to future disaster.
We’re weak because the Bush regime chose to fight two wars but not pay for them and REDUCED the government’s income at the same time.
Of course, that’s President Obama’s fault, too, isn’t it?
The congressman was bringing voter’s attention to the threat, because wars are not pleasant experiences. The cost of war should be paid on a pay-as-you-go process, unfortunately either one or both sides always borrows money. Wars should be “declared wars,” and taxes should be raised during the process as well, everyone should feel the effects. War should be a last resort, not an ongoing exercise in social experimentation. You are correct, the USA’s manufacturing base has dissolved, and many technical skills have become dormant in the USA. No president has been without fault, not even the last. Let’s hope the situation with Venezuela never gets that far. Because yes, we still have very potent capability as well.
It is his fault for increasing the problem ten fold and for lying to the voters about his contempt for them and the nation! In case you had not noticed and I understand how difficult it must be for you betrayed by the Obamanation, but Bush the socialist light has been gone over three years , replaced by the marxist socialist regime!
But but but this can’t be……The Ron Paul crackpots and president Obama tell us Iran and Venezuela are tiny countries that could never harm us????? You mean Iran is putting long range missiles capable of carrying their newly developed nuclear warheads 2200 kilometers and reach all of our southern cities (including all of Florida)? Like I said you morons will get us all nuked.
[...] Shark Tank has an excellent interview with Rep. Allen West (R-FL) concerning national defense and foreign policy. [...]
George Bush’s fault, Yea right, Your an idiot. He made many mistakes and spend too much money, but this is Obama’s doing. Get rid of all the free handout to lazy people, Medicare and social security to those who never paid in, and billions to other country’s in foreign add and we wouldn’t be having this Debt issues. The Federal government jobs is only to protect it’s people, not for education(states job), Welfare (get a job), medicare( buy insurance), Social Security (get an education and learn to invest). This is not Europe, this is America. Land of the free, if you want to be taken care of move back in with your mommie or move to another country. Build the Military and kick anybody butt that threatens us, and protect those who want to be protected. Spreading Life, liberty and justic for all is a great thing.
Rich,
I see one communist sitting in the Oval Office. Need proof? I have plenty: His father was a Marxist, his mother also, his grandparents belonged to a church nicknamed “The Little Red Church” because of its support of communist causes, his grandfather was on the FBI’s communist watch list, his grandfather turned the young Obama (by Obama’s own admission) onto Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the American Communist Party. Obama referred to him in his book “Dreams from My Father” as his mentor and someone he turned to frequently for guidance. Obama also wrote that he actively sought out radical elements while in college. He appointed a registered communist, Van Jones, as his Energy Czar, and Anita Dunn, who said that Chairman Mao was one of her favorite philosophers, as his communications director. Obama once said “Judge me by the people with whom I associate with.”
I have. He’s as red as strawberry Jell-O.
Amen Brother!
Hugo isn’t going to attack his best customer. The US is not threatening him. He just finds it convenient to make noise for local consumption. It suits his purposes to be seen with the Iranians but he won’t put his life on the line for them. Do you really think he is our for anyone but himself?
Do not leave oil out of the equation. Hugo is starting to run out as is Mexico , while we now have the largest untapped oil reser4ves in the world. As that equation continues to change we will increasingly become the target of our current foes. That is also a key to resolving our financial woes if we had a government smart enough to capitalize on it!
Any person thinking Venezuela or Iran is a military threat isn’t thinking. I question their ability to think critically about anything. Drop the parroting rhetoric and study history, read a book.

If what you are saying is we are our own worst enemy, you are correct. But do not forget the oil. We have it and others will increasingly want it. If we do not maintain our pysical and economic strenghth they will try to get it by the most advantageouis route to them. if they can’t buy it they will try to blackmail us for it or take it.The utopian grfeen dream is still well in the future and can not be forced by government.
Rich proved that what they say about black men is true, and even half black in Obamas case, he’s still under Obamas desk since January 9th and has not come up for air!
