Rick Santorum Speaks to Black Church About the Right to Life

By Javier Manjarres

GOP Presidential candidate Rick Santorum spent this past Sunday attending a church service at the Worldwide Christian Center in Pompano Beach, FL before heading to a popular chicken wings restaurant to speak to a large group (250+) of his supporters, including a couple of wiley Ron Paul supporters.

With Newt Gingrich’s South Carolina win, he joins Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum with a primary win apiece.   The conservative vote has been fractured thus far in the primary, but many wonder if this coveted voting bloc is beginning to side with Gingrich primarily because of his tough rhetorical smackdowns of President Obama and the media.  To be fair, it probably also has something to do with Santorum being viewed as a weaker candidate that lacks the money, name recognition, and institutional support needed to make a strong push forward.

Is the Republican electorate voting on emotion instead of principle? Will this same electorate help re-elect President Obama by choosing a more ‘toxic’ and undisciplined nominee ?

Santorum spoke about the  importance of  traditional marriages, as  well as his experience in dealing with the ‘late-term’ abortion issue while he was in the U.S. Senate.

It’s pretty safe to say that Rick Santorum is the most socially conservative, pro-family, pro-life candidate remaining in the field. But can he use his ‘true’ conservative bona fides to win the Republican nomination?

Here is a video clip of Santorum’s address to the congregation at the Worldwide Christian Church:

Santorum kicks off Florida campaign at predominantly black church, receives standing ovation.

Who says that a conservative Republican can’t win the black vote? It looks like Rick Santorum’s choice to make Reverend O’Neal Dozier the honorary chairman of his Florida Campaign is already paying huge dividends. Dozier, the former NFL football player turned pastor, endorsed Santorum from his pulpit on Sunday. Rev. Dozier warmly introduced Senator Santorum, saying that ”Obama has been very bad for our black community”, and that ”Rick Santorum is a man of honor and the choice to beat Obama in November.”

Santorum took the stage at the Worldwide Christian Center and quickly struck a cord with the mostly black congregation. Santorum said ”people call me the values candidate, but I firmly believe family values are an economic issue. Rick then pointed out that ”over 40% of single parent homes in the black community are under the poverty line. That needs to be changed. And strengthening the family unit is the best way to lift these families out of poverty.”

Senator Santorum then discussed the strategic importance of standing with Israel. calling them ”our loyal ally and our best friend in the Middle East.” You could see the churchgoers heads nodding up and down in approval at that statement.

Rick also spoke about his battle to ban partial birth abortion, also known as ”infantcide”. For those of you unaware of what this gruesome practice is, a live baby comes out of the mother womb. legs first, everything except the head. The doctor then crushes the head of the baby and removes the now dead baby from the mother’s womb and disposes of it.

Senator Santorum introduced the ”Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003″ into legislation and devoted all of his political capital into getting this crucial piece of legislation passed. Rick finally succeeded in getting this bill passed, but at a high personal cost. He was now ”public enemy number one” of the far left and the liberal media, and they took their revenge on him by helping Bob Casey Jr, the son of former popular Pennsylvania Governor Robert Casey, defeat Santorum for his Senate seat in 2006.

Then came the most touching moment of the day. As well as one that serves as an ominous warning for the danger that Obamacare presents to our country. Rick spoke about his 3 year old disabled daughter Bella. Bella was born with a rare genetic disorder called trisomy 18(Edwards syndrome). Doctors and health care providers said that she would be emotionally and physically disabled and openly suggested that it was a poor allotment of ”time and medical resources” to try to keep her alive. But Rick instead chose to embrace Bella as a valued and important member of the Santorum family. And Rick shared from the heart about the lessons that his family learned from Bella. That everyone is disabled in one way or another. And the value of unconditonal love.

Rick Santorum received a standing ovation as he walked off the stage.

  3. Javier -
I saw Joe Kaufman and his wife at the service sitting next to Mario Diaz-Balart.

I had heard that after the service Joe was pressing the flesh with the press trying to get camera time and even handing out campaign literature. I didn’t actually witness this myself. Do you have any sources that can verify if this true?
