The bribery allegations made against Congressman Cliff Stearns by Clay County Clerk of Courts James Jett, are now being questioned by freshman Congressman Rich Nugent. Nugent, who says that he does not personally know Jett and has been told that Jett is an upstanding citizen and viable candidate in his congressional race said that,” I have a hard time believing it because Stearns has 2 1/2 million plus in the bank.” The ‘it’ Nugent is referring to is the allegation that Stearns tried to bribe Jett to leave the congressional primary race that Stearns himself is running in. While Nugent did not elaborate much further into the issue, he did say that “being and 24 year incumbent is not a strong position.”
Several months back, Stearns was reportedly eyeing Nugent’s congressional district and looking towards a primary matchup with Nugent, very similar to Congressman John Mica current primary challenge of Congresswoman Sandy Adams.

I will never believe that Cong Stearns, who is loved by constituents in his previous District, and whose voting record aligns with the positions of the majority of voters in his new District, would even consider bribing a political opponent!
Furthermore, recently in political campaigns, people are condemning and convicting others in the court of public opinion even prior to the completion of any investigation let alone being found guilty in a court hearing! By the time the actual truth gets out, people are destroyed and it takes years to rebuild their reputations. Most of these accusations are dropped as soon as the elections are over (which tells me that they weren’t true to begin with, but only used to destroy one opponent while the other wins the election. By the time these attacks are dropped it’s too late to repair the damage of good reputations that took a lifetime to build!
The only accusations which I would allow, would be regarding voting records, and actual positions on specific issues (BUT ONLY IF THERE WAS SUFFICIENT PROOF, NOT BECAUSE AN OPPONENT JUST DECIDED TO MAKE A DECEPTIVE OR DELIBERATELY ERRONEOUS ACCUSATION)!
From now on, if a candidate resorts to this destruction of people rather than stressing his/her own positives, I will not vote for him/her. This has to stop! It’s disgusting!
George Soros has a bigger stack of than Stearns, does that make George trustwothy? Obama has more than 2 1/2 million, is he trustworthy? Congressman Nugent your argument is a faulty logic. Why did the FBI take up yhe case? Why are not Sapp and Horn in jail, after the FBI reported that they could arrest them right now [according to the Jett - Trusdell interview]?
I will never doubt corruption or bribery allegations made against any career politician. By career politician, I would mean someone who promised to leave office after a set time period and didn’t. Someone who is not looking to represent his district in Congress, but would instead move to find a district that will represent his own personal interests.
So, Jett & Obama thinx We of Cliff’s district are willing to give up Cliff’s earned seat as Chairman of the house energy commission? I know that any time Eric Holder is persueing a “witch hunt” on Jimmie’s “word”, something is dead, sick and wrong in Denmark. I don’t know what “deal” jimmie was offered, but I do know it was Satanic, in the least. I wish Cliff was more conservative. Unfortunately for me, he is more conservative than any of his opposition. This manure (I really meant manuever) from jimmie makes me pray for his soul. To align himself with Obama and his henchman Holder is to take on the mantle of Judas Iscariot in the political world.
To Trent I ask; How many terms does a politician earn the term “career”? I say more than one. How many terms has jimmie jett “served”? I think he’s in his third. I agree with Trent, as it applies to jimmie jett.
To Richard; You’re obviously a big fan of Eric Holder’s (by your own definition).
Methinks Jett is clerk of the court and not supervisor of elections
Just to clarify, the $2.5 million that was mentioned is in campaign funds and not personal wealth so the Soros comparison really does not work. Nugent’s statement makes perfect sense in the context of a campaign where Jett has raised less than $100K, and by his own admission is already over $25K in debt to his political advisor. Unless he raises some funds fast, he cannot compete in this race.
Also, the FBI does not comment on whether they have an active investigation and have not here. So to claim that they do is false. They may, but unless you are within the FBI there is no way to speak with any certainty.
