With Florida’s redistricting process just about wrapped up, Central Florida will again be the focal point in this year’s general election. But the Republican primary election in Congressional District 7 could turn out to be an even more interesting race than the general election considering that Congressman John Mica has decided to primary challenge Congresswoman Sandy Adams in her own congressional district.
During a meeting with 10 Tea Party leaders in Orlando, Florida, Mica started off the meeting discussing the ‘How it works’ process in Washington, D.C. and stressed that “it takes time” for Representatives to effect change and move policy forward. Mica, who has been in Congress since 1993, is term limited out of his position as Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and it’s fair to say that he would be he is qualified to provide this “insight” on how Washington, D.C. really works.
According to one prominent Tea party activist that attended the meeting, Mica’s statement that, “You need me, you need guys like me to get things done” came across as a bit overconfident and showed that he was disconnected to the activist movement that has helped reshape the political landscape over the past several years. In addition, Mica added more fodder to his possible grassroots problem after another activist asked him if he would go to other grassroots meetings. Mica responded, “This is why I had this meeting today.”
The person who asked the question felt as if Mica thought he was doing them the favor for making the time to sit down and hold a meeting.
What was most interesting and troublesome to the grassroot leaders- and perhaps a decisive contrast between the grassroots members of Congress and the ‘establishment’ element within the Republican Party- was the statement Congressman Mica made regarding the new members of Congress that were recently ushered in to office in 2010.

Republican freshman President, Congressman Austin Scott (R-GA) had this to say regarding Mica’s remark-
The freshman Republican class sees the national deficit as being the biggest enemy to the future of our children and grandchildren, and the difference between the senior members of Congress and the freshman, is that we (freshman) want to deal with it now. I think she (Adams) is a good Congresswoman and is representative of what Americans look for in a member of Congress.- Congressman Austin Scott(R-GA)
When the question arose about why he was challenging Congresswoman Adams, Mica unapologeticaly suggested that the party stood a better chance to win with him and not Adams because her district wasn’t a strong Republican district.
Mica then stated that Adams was an aggressive campaigner, adding that he would continue to not mention Adams when campaigning for his re-election to Congress.
Congressman Mica’s statements to Florida’s grassroots activists could be a real liability for him should he continue to be unable to connect with everyday Americans who helped changed Washington in 2010 by electing citizen legislators and are poised to do the same in 2012.
The Shark Tank reached out to freshman Congressman Allen West for comment, but West was lost trying to find the bathroom and could not be reached /sarc.

I agree with Congressman Mica, total amateur hour on the Hill. BTW – Mica’s analogy about not finding the bathroom is correct. Congressional reps need to know their way around or they will shit all over the floor and just make a big mess.
That was awfully nice of Mica to come up with such great campaign ads for Adams to use.

Whoa!. How do you conclude that this is Sandy Adam’s district? Her District 24 was eliminated by the Legislature. Rep. Mica’s district has always been District 7. Rep. Mica’s House is square in the middle of the district. Rep. Adam’s House was moved into District 7 from District 8 by a last minute amendment by Rep. Precourt.
The new District 7 is 90% of what Rep. Mica represents now or has represented in the past.
What has Mica done for Central Florida? The list is long. What has Adams done? Can’t think of anything.

It has been those lost souls looking for the bathroom who have held the line on almost every key vote in the house. They will not bankrupt this Republic. It is they who have had OUR Backs in DC! They have held the tired old arrogant entitled sob’s feet to the fire in the house. Boehner’s first instinct is to go along with the flow. They still want business as usual up there. How many Billions did Mica want to pile on our offspring for his bullet train? Average speed from Tampa to MCO maybe on a good day 70mph.
He has been around too long for our own good, time to pack it in Mica.

When will Politicians like Sandy Adams and her hired goons realize that we don’t want the same deception and backstabbing that has become so prevalent in Washington. We the people want honest and thoughtful leaders that truly care about the American People and not deceiving their way into office for a second decade of accomplishing nothing.
Peter, please take note here. This story is an accurate description from one of the attendees at the meeting. We do not have anything bad to say about Congressman Mica, so I do not know what you mean by saying that we are out to ‘sully’ a good and honorable person. The facts are the facts.

Both are Pretty Conservative. Each has voted for a couple of liberal bills, but not too many. Only difference between the two, experience. Mica has the experience and Sandy Adams does not.

Isn’t Rep. Adams an accidental Congresswoman anyway? I remember a nasty primary where two better-known opponents beat each other senseless with negative ads and Sandy Adams was the last person standing. District 7 voters have three choices– a longtime Washington legacy politician (Mica), short termer who hasn’t really done anything but made it from the Tea Party to the cocktail party in record time (Adams) or fire both of them. Not many voters get a chance to fire TWO members of Congress in the same year!
