Connie Mack’s Missed Votes a Missed Opportunity?

June 3, 2012

By Javier Manjarres

It’s increasingly clear that the dynamics of Florida’s 2012 U.S. Senate race are completely different from those of Marco Rubio’s 2010 Senatorial race, as Rubio himself has said that this year’s race will be “a more conventional race.”  The latest Quinnipiac poll has Congressman Connie Mack with a huge lead over former U.S. Senator George LeMieux, 40%-7%.

But with former Congressman Dave Weldon jumping into the race, his entrance could liven up the race a bit, since a vote for him will probably take away from the current support that LeMieux is enjoying from a good chunk of the social conservative wing of the Republican Party. Dave Weldon’s recent entrance into the race was too late to be factored into the Quinnipiac Poll.

Congressman Mack has been targeted by LeMieux and by now Weldon for missing votes while campaigning in Florida. Mack recently missed the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act of  2012 (PRENDA), and Weldon, who is considered to be the some to be the most ‘socially conservative’ of the bunch had this to say about Mack’s missed vote-

My opponent, Connie Mack, missed the vote on this bill and has clearly abdicated his responsibility to the people of Florida and to the unborn.  While social issues may not be important to my opponent, I can assure you that I will vote to protect life and I will lead to enact protection for all life; from cradle to grave.  After all, the right to life is endowed by our Creator and outlined by our Constitution – and the fact my opponent doesn’t understand this basic human right to life is disturbing.”-Fmr. Congressman Dave Weldon

Congressman Mack has told the St.Petersburg Times that it was a matter of “balancing” and that “We’re going to to do the best we can to run an effective campaign and make sure we do our work here in Washington.”

But now Right-to-Life grassroots activists whose first concern is the abortion issue are again calling into question Mack’s pro-life bona fides.  Mack has been taking jab after jab from the Right to Lifers for his past support of embryonic stem cell research.  Now with another missed vote on another life issue, these same activists believe that Mack is lacking when it comes to pro-life considerations.

In Mack’s defense, Mack has received a 100% rating from the National Right to Life organization, and voted against abortion and variant bills that would support its funding, but he did vote for expanding research on embryonic stem cell lines, and pro-lifers are going to continually dog him for those votes.

As Rubio said, this election will be more “conventional”, and social issues such embryonic stem cell research will likely be secondary concerns for voters, as the ailing national economy and abysmal jobs numbers are first and foremost in the minds of the majority of voters at this time.

This is a different campaign…..There is no one representing Tea Party values. But wait there is someone… ,just ignored by the media and even surveys on Shark Tank. Free Speech, yes, comrades but not from a mere citizen.

    • Whats_Up says:

Guess Shark Tank is getting RINO grants and donations to keep them in the lime-light and to most certainly NOT cover the likes of Marielena Stuart. Gawd forbid we get a true Patriot to stand up and FIGHT for our Freedoms, Liberties and a limited government.

  2. Electric Jack says:

Javier keep all there feet to the Fire especially Georgie Boy……I still prefer Marirlena Stuart at least she has a history of not sitting in the public trough suckin the life blood out of our nation. Enough with the professional politicans….time for the moms to take over Karen Harrington ans Mrs Adams and Mrs Stuart go ladies I love the 3 of you….

    • Whats_Up says:

Because Javier is SILENT on Marielena Stuart, tells me he has been “bought” by the RINO Establishment. Javier has had ample time to do a piece on Marielena to no avail. Many of us have blogged about her, provided links to her site and great, conservative speeches she has made. Javier has access to her schedule, but has not bothered to take the time to actually attend any of her events, let alone interview her. Javier is a RINO Putzwad, IMO.

      • What’s up- Javier also hasn’t taken the time to do a piece on the following Senate candidates-

        Candidate Status Primary General

        Agbede, Akinyemi (REP) Active
        Blass, Piotr (WRI) Qualified
        Bollinger, George Edward (REP) Active
        Borgia, Chris (NPA) Active
        Gaylor, Bill (NPA) Active
Hinkle Jr., Eugene M. (WRI) Active
        Ilnyckyj, Alexander (REP) Active

        Long, Deon (REP) Active
        Lynch, Chuck (DEM) Active

        McNeil, Ron (NPA) Qualified

        Stojadinovic, Dan (REP) Active
        Stuart, Marielena (REP) Qualified
        Sunthonchart Jr, Paiboon (WRI) Active
        Trujillo, Lesther (NPA) Active
        Weldon, Dave (REP) Qualified

As you can clearly see, lots of folks have qualified for the ballot, but few are actually running campaigns that have generated enough support to cross the threshold from merely “qualifying” to run to establishing a credible statewide campaign that has the presence, support and financing of the credible campaigns of Mack and LeMieux. Until Stuart herself crosses that threshold, she’s no different than Dan Stojadinovic or any of the other candidates, and you can’t fault the media for not reporting on candidates that havent been able to generate the grassroots support that would make them worthy of attention in the first place.

        • Jim says:

“El Spanko Loco”, your name fits you like a glove!

“lots of folks have qualified”? Two Republicans have qualified up to this point and MARIELENA is one of them. Your GOP establishment credentials are showing.

“credible campaigns of Mack and LeMieux”? HA!!! Two ESTABLISHMENT candidates who have access to ESTABLISHMENT money. Their GOP money DOES NOT make them “credible candidates.” Mack and LeMieux are both extremely flawed with integrity challenges that have been well documented.

MARIELENA STUART http://www.STUART2012.com is the ONLY candidate of INTEGRITY in this U.S.Senate race. This extraordinary woman has earned powerful support as a conservative grassroots candidate. Her hard work has paid off as she continues to criss-cross Florida bringing audiences to their feet in admiration of her courage and her genuine conservative message. Here is what the Palm Beach County Tea Party Chapters of Jupiter and Boca Raton had to say,

Palm Beach County Tea Party – Jupiter Chapter:

“It was a red meat speech and right on the money. We were left feeling that if Marielena Stuart is elected to the Senate, the place will never be the same again. Truly a candidate for the times.”

Palm Beach County Tea Party – Boca Raton Chapter:

“There was an element to her speech of true human emotion and authenticity that simply cannot be faked—her sincerity was palpable, transcending mere politics. Her positions on nearly all the issues that face us today are as true to the Constitution as anyone who has spoken at one of our events. One can see how much of a threat she represents to the Establishment in politics, since she is not shy about how she would reduce power within the Federal Government, should she be elected.”

          • Dammit Jim, get your facts straight :) Seven candidates, including Nelson, have “qualified”, not two.

And if all of these Tea Party Chapters are raving about Stuart, why hasn’t she caught on elsewhere- especially with other Tea Party Chapters? Why isn’t she even showing 1% percent in any poll? – Answer is that there’s no widespread support or statewide campaign, much like Belinda Noah’s efforts the past several years.

          • Jim says:

Loco, my fact was very simple. Two “Republicans” on your list had qualified and one was Marielena. It doesn’t matter what minor party or no party candidates have done. They won’t be on the Republican primary ballot and that is the subject of the article.

“why isn’t she even showing 1% in any poll?” Come on Loco, you know that answer. The Republican leadership has tried to discourage Marielena in the hope that she would go away. At the instruction of the Republican party, she is not included in a poll so she can’t get 1%. But a poll that does include her is the Republican party internal poll and Marielena’s showing in their own poll must have them very worried.

“no statewide campaign”? Marielena has made almost 100 appearances throughout the state of Florida since her first campaign appearance on September 11, 2011. You need to get out more Loco or better yet go to http://www.STUART2012.com and discover MARIELENA STUART the only candidate in the U.S.Senate race in Florida with INTEGRITY.

          • Do you all realize how crazy you may Mrs. Stuart look by the way you ambush the content section?

          • Jim says:

Huh? What IS “crazy” is YOUR comment or “content” as you call it. The Shark Tank ,as an arm of the Republican Party of Florida, has refused to include Marielena Stuart in the discussion concerning the candidates for the U.S.Senate race 2012. Her supporters have let it be known that she’s here, she’s not going away, and she deserves mention.

Marielena Stuart http://www.STUART2012.com is now on the Republican U.S.Senate primary ballot, along with the four men who The Shark Tank exclusively chooses to mention, but all four of these men have well documented problems as candidates.

Marielena Stuart is the breath of fresh air that Florida voters have been waiting for.

  3. Whats_Up says:

Am SO sick of the “Establishment RINO’s”, including the friggin’ RNC. Connie Mack can kiss my grits. He has spent more time in DC and CA than he has in his own district in FL. LeMieux – another RINO. And “Shark Tank” is obviously full of RINO’s, otherwise they would be giving time to the likes of Constitutional Conservative Marielena Stuart.

Progressive RINO’s, like Connie Mack, Jeb Bush, Rep Bill Young need to STFU and disappear. In fact, I will include Marco Rubio in with this bunch and most of our FL RINO Reps up in Tallahassee. Had it not been for the Tea Party, many of these critters would not be where they are today. By Gawd, I hope the Tea Party can find more peeps like Marielena Stuart and Lt Col Allen West.

  4. Perseids says:

The Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act of 2012

This bill has no chance, as in no chance at all, of ever becoming law in this Congress. Period. It is doa in the Senate.

So, the argument could be made that it really is about time for the kabuki dancing to end and maybe about time they should all just get to work and earn their keep. These types of bills are great when you can point to a legislative session full of good work on the peoples behalf, sadly that is not the case. The economy is sliding off into the abyss as the EU unravels and China has a not so soft landing. They chose to posture and look the other way.

Perhaps, just maybe, more political points could be scored in the game of gotcha by standing erect and really addressing the major problems facing this Republic. But, that would take real guts and real men Boehner, Cantor, and most surely McConnell don’t seem to have the stomach for it. They’d rather play it safe run out the clock and hope for the best. They can always get Paul Ryan to put his head on the chopping block again after the election. He’s been there twice thus far.

  5. Susan says:

I sat through one of MariElena’s boring diatribes while she bounced ideas off of her crowd, trying to figure out which ones would get a response and what to formulate her campaign around. I could not stand to sit through another one. But I appreciate that she is trying.

  6. Rob says:

    Javier,

I seldom visit this website because I know you want a real candidate like Stuart out of the race. She will get my vote as I won’t vote for another RINO. See you after the primaries!

  7. Per all of the attention I am getting in the comments section, I failed to realize that I was also running for the U.S.Senate ;)
