Allen West Reaffirms ‘Slavery’ Remark

July 8, 2012

By Javier Manjarres

In his ‘Weekly Wrap-Up’, Congressman Allen West doubled down on his previous statement that President Obama would “rather you be his slave.”

The controversial yet accurate statement enraged both Democrats and Leftists because it points out that Obama would rather have Americans rely on government assistance rather than actually earn their own way.

“He does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning and having that title of American. He’d rather you be his slave-Congressman Allen West

Now West states in his Wrap-Up this-

We are so far away from Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence. It is now becoming a Declaration of Dependence under this Administration. That ladies and gentlemen is truly a form of slavery, and is not what the title “American” was meant to be. It is certainly not what 56 men pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to establish.

This is enslavement of our indomitable American entrepreneurial spirit, and I will join forces with all those who seek to change this course.-Congressman Allen West.

Here is West’s entire release-

Greetings to our constituents, all Floridians, and all Americans,

I pray you had a wonderful and happy Independence Day celebration!

It was a great week for me, which gave me time to reflect upon Thomas Jefferson’s impeccable document and the foundational premise upon which this great nation was established. I have sought to articulate that premise this past week when possible – the concept of individual sovereignty.

That was why I read the entire Declaration of Independence at several different venues this week. What was very telling were the grievances as listed by Thomas Jefferson and how we see a parallel and resemblance to where we are today. America is moving away from Jefferson’s vision of individual liberty to one of collective subjugation and economic dependence – in effect a new form of slavery.

It is clear that when one objectively assesses where this current Administration is taking America, its members are more concerned with wedding more people to government in a dependent mode than empowering American’ to live out their dreams, and enjoy their unalienable rights which do not emanate from man or government, but from our Creator, the supreme judge.

We see that in this past month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Social Security Administration, more Americans signed up for Social Security disability (85,000) than jobs were created (80,000). Since June 2009, while the Obama Administration claims 2.4 million jobs have been created, there have been 3.1 million Americans going on Social Security disability in the same timeframe.

Let us not forget, under this Administration, unemployment benefits were increased from 26 weeks to 99 weeks. When economic policies are failing, the solution is not to throw up our hands and simply dole out more benefits. The solution is to change policy.

Instead, poverty rolls have increased by almost seven million Americans since 2009.

Food stamp rolls (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP) have grown from 32 million to 46 million, a 45 percent increase. We now even have a federal government using American taxpayer dollars to promote individuals enrolling on food stamps… unconscionable!

We have the lowest job participation rate that America has seen in 31 years at 63.7 percent. And we now have had 41 months of unemployment above eight percent — the longest running high rate since the Great Depression.

Yet, President Obama states, “We are on the right track.”

Sure we are, if your dream and desire is to economically enslave the American people and collectively subjugate them to government dependency.

This is enslavement of our indomitable American entrepreneurial spirit, and I will join forces with all those who seek to change this course.

  1. John says:

He is right on as usual this is not America as it was intended we are all becoming slaves of the government

    • Rich says:

Please tell us exactly how you are a “slave to the government”.
I realize that none of you feel that you have to pay income taxes, that’s a given, but, other than having to pay taxes to give the government income to run the country for us, how are you in slavery to the government??

      • Morena says:

I will try to explain…so please open your mind and heart

why do we have usuary laws? we do not want anyone to get rip off or abused, right? so all financial institution, credit card companies or banks are limited or restricted to a maximum of 18% interest charge on money they lend….yet the government has not scrupple to tax us over 50% of our income. When you add: property taxes, sales taxes, users taxes, utilities or energy taxes, gas or oil taxes, consumer’s taxes and income taxes….it eats up more than 50% of our income….when you are working but not collecting or allowed to keep the bulk of the fruit of your work or efforts….is that slavery?? you are working but not collecting the fruit of your efforts = slavery!

No conservative is opposed to the role or need of limited government but what we need is a law or constitutional ammedment similar to usuary laws….no government should confiscate more than 20% of your income. This will effectively limit the scope or size of government which was the vision of the founders of this great Nation: limited government is the best government.

  2. Bob Chapman says:

We have spoiled our children and given them so much that now Obama comes along and just adds fuel to the fire. If only today’s children would understand and hear what President Kennedy said so many years ago… ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY.
Wake up America, the pockets are only so deep.

  3. AmazedAmerican says:

West is right. Obama is treating the black population as HIS slaves, and he has structured his government to dothe same. He would like the white population to be his slaves too, but so far he has found that they are not lazy enough to be be slaves. Oh there are some, but enough to his liking.

  4. Bill in Tennessee says:

Thank you, Congressman West, one of the few sane voices in Washington. Watch your back, sir… men who tell the truth in that polluted cesspool often end up like Vince Foster.

  5. Michael Harris says:

I was saddened that Allen West was re-districted by fellow Republicans. But I am excited to vote for him in November. He is a great American

  6. Rhonda Siegers says:

This black man gets it!!! Too bad far more did not have the knowledge and courage that this man has!

  7. G Speed says:

Mr West- you vote for bills that increase the size of gov’t and then speak to a “Declaration of Dependence” by the POTUS. Surely you can do better than that.

Lets try some real tough talk –how about attacking the rampant corruption in gov’t? The revolving door of lobby/corp jobs for retiring reps would be a good start.

How about attacking the real tax on small business (the size of gov’t and its bloated payroll). How about downsizing the Dept of Education or the Dept Housing and Urban Development for starters (or would that be racist?)

How about attacking the legal corporate monopolies (central banks, chemical companies, insurance giants, etc.) and the “law makers” that create them)

How about attacking the over spending military industrial complex that is sucking this country dry (or would that be un-patriotic?)

How about reading the bills you vote on before voting on them.

How about speaking out against corp welfare.

Come on Mr West–we know the POTUS is a failure–stop preaching to the choir and get original –unless of course you don’t really believe what you’re saying about slavery.

  8. Jeff says:

Dependent on the Government or being an indentured servant to some rich “Fat Cat”. What a wonderful choice.

  9. Chuck Lehmann says:

Hey “G Speed”, Rep. West is only one congressman, he can only do so much. Give him more straight-thinking legislators like him, and then he might be able to do those positive things you mentioned. Let’s start by getting rid of that cancer in the White House and elect a few more conservative senators to overturn some of the damage done by this thug administation.

    • G Speed says:

Chuck–I like Mr. West– I would vote for him if he was in my district. I also like my kids but I instruct them every day. Representative West works for the likes of “me” (the people). Often he votes contrary to what he says. In the past he has acted in a brash and irresponsible manner. Mr.West needs his feet held to the fire–he needs his friends as well as his detractors to point to missteps. If he casts votes that belie his statements, regardless if they were the “fault” of his staff or because he was lead to believe “facts” with errors it is up to us to point them out.

As I’ve “pointed out” before in this sheet I think Mr. West has the right stuff, but continual “way to go” slaps on the back will not help his progress toward the Senate and the W. H (which is where many want him to go)

Mr West has taken positions that draw attention but have been ill advised and will require him to back track at a later date, an unenviable position to be in.

While Freedom and Liberty are grand they are not options in a “greater gov’t” policy. While “Peace through Strength” is workable, peace through war is not. Having a platform of lower taxes is good, however ignoring the huge tax by gov’t corruption, regulatory capture, bureaucratic overload, gov’t worker mandates and crony capitalism that we all pay is conscienceless.

Mr West would do well to pay more attention to the Constitution and less attention to his steering committee.

      • Rich says:

Just wait, the way Mr. West is going, he may become your representative someday soon. He seems to be wanting to go wherever the political fight is easier.

  10. matt aronson says:

Mr. West is an ideal candidate as Romney’s vice-president; he’s smart, savvy and articulate; he would make “mince meat” out of Joe Biden in any debate and would be instrumental in a Republican victory in November.

    • Rich says:

      Yeah, great idea.
We can all join hands and search for the dreaded “commies” together!!
He tells you all what you want to hear and you all fall for it.
He’s a politician, he’s bought and paid for by his campaign donors/bribers like ALL OF THEM are.

Do you really believe that your wants and wishes will take precedence over those of the wealthy donors and big business who give him the money to run for his cushy job with better health care and pension than you or a government union member will ever have?

By the way, please explain the lack of anger towards the politicians health and pension packages that we pay for? Why aren’t you calling for the politicians to pay a greater share of the cost of their benefits? Please explain.

      • AFIraqVet says:

If you haven’t seen that anger, it’s clear that you aren’t paying attention and show up only to sling BS. Why aren’t you angry that your beloved “enlightened” wise leftists crafted a system that they themselves don’t have to be a part of?

  11. Joel Miller says:

VP?, I wish Congressman West would run for President !!
We need a man like Alan West for our President NOW before it’s to late !!

  12. Elaine says:

Proud Congressman West is from Florida! Have been advocating this honorable retired military man be chosen to be next VP.

  13. anne says:

fla and the country is indeed fortunate to have col. west’s voice. if the state of slavery (dependence) is so great, the Jews would not have fled eqypt five thousand yrs ago. kind of reminds you of the pimp relationship–you do the work and i’ll collect the reward

  14. DebraP says:

Being steadfast, loyal and hard-working, Allen West is one of the most productive Americans we’ve got in DC. In stark contrast, don’t think anyone needs to be told what Obama produces..

  15. Stan Lee says:

Let the lefties complain! West “has their number!” This is one good guy, he’s a valuable asset to the Republican’Conservatives.

  16. I love the way West gets to the heart of the matter when addressing an issue. He is clear and concise–and of course right on! We need him, among others, to ride point for those of us who want a return to the upholding of our incomparable founding documents–among them the Declaration of Independence. Still having a hard time with his ‘yea’ vote on NDAA though!

  17. 1776Liberal says:

Congressman West “gets it” and is a refreshing voice of reality and truth in DC. Sure wish he were in my district. Wish I could vote for him as Pres, VP, or Senator.

  18. Lowie says:

Let’s all take this 16 trillion in debt seriously. The rich can be taxed 100% and not put a dent in this figure so now the Democrats say everyone earning more than $250K must pay their fair share, but will not put a dent in paying down this figure. Who’s left….confiscation of all corporate profits and 401K’s and all pension plans should take care of the balance. We all have failed to grasp this debt so don’t be surprised if the current administation and all the socialists who wish the capitalist system to collapse to do something unheard of in our country. Transformation of this kind is taking shape and yes, we will ALL be slaves to this NEW system. West is trying to warn us so pay attention and keep him in office.
