Congressman Allen West today sided with his fellow Republican Congressmen, Duncan Hunter and Michael Grimm, in asking that Americans boycott travel to Mexico until detained Marine Corp veteran Jon Hammar is released from jail. Hammar has been jailed in a Mexican prison on a bogus weapons charge.
Apparently, Mexican officials do not seem willing to release Hammar, citing that “Mexico has had very stringent gun-control laws in place for many years, and have reinforced their application as a result of the flow of weapons illicitly purchased in the U.S. and then trafficked into Mexico and into the hands of transnational criminal organizations.”-Fox News
Until U.S. Marine Jon Hammar is released, I am calling on all Americans to cancel their vacations to Mexico and not to book any travel there,” Grimm said, calling Hammar’s treatment at the hands of Mexican officials an “absolute disgrace.”
“Hammar honorably served our country as a U.S. Marine, and we should be doing all we can to bring this innocent hero home…Marines always follow one rule: Never leave a man behind. As a fellow Marine, I will not leave Jon Hammar behind in Mexico, even if it means I have to go there myself to get him and bring him home” -Rep. Grimm
Here is Congressman Allen West statement regarding detained Marine Veteran Jon Hammar-
‘I agree Hammar’s treatment is an “absolute disgrace and it is unconscionable that Jay Carney knew nothing about this. There is no excuse for this and the picture of an American, a Marine, chained to a cot is despicable.
In some ways, Lance Corporal Hammar is another victim of the botched “Fast and Furious” program. Mexico has stringent gun control laws in part because of weapons illicitly purchased in the US and trafficked back into Mexico.
I pray that, just as with Benghazi, the new normal for Time magazine’s Man of the Year is not to abandon this Marine, as his Administration did two Navy SEALs. These actions only serve to erode the trust and confidence in the Commander-in-Chief from our men and women in uniform – and all Americans, for that matter.
Support the travel boycott to Mexico, and call the White House to let this Administration know we do not tolerate abandoning LC Hammar.”-Rep. Allen West

This whole thing is unconscionable…I fully expect some dramatic, last minute “save” from Obama…he can”t pass up a chance to be a savior..If he doesn’t,..it is a ferocious slap in the face to the military..and another revealing play to undermine the American public and put other nations before the American public..How embarrassing it is to have this President appearing in a long line of patriots who put American well being before political moves…It is disgusting!
[...] The Shark Tank: Allen West Calls for Americans to Boycott Travel to Mexico [...]
It is high time some of our representatives stood up on this issue, I’m glad to see it. There is nothing in Mexico worth the risk of going there for. Their “government” is even worse than the one we have.
It has been a long running practice there to kidnap Americans on bogus charges and extort money from their families in the US. Maybe at this late date the politicians in America will start using their positions of influence to do some good at last.
The only point of disagreement I have with this is that Col West advocates the boycott only until we retrieve our illegally detained marine.
I believe no American should enter Mexico until the Drug War is won and a safe and democratic society is in place there!
Withdraw American business and tourist dollars, seal the borders and watch events unfold!
Have you ever been to Mexico? Well, I have. The people are friendly, I feel safer there than here, and 98% of Mexico has nothing to do with the so-called drug wars.
Here’s the truth. When Americans stop buying drugs, the allegedly drug war will end. Making everyone else in the world responsible for the drug/crime equation that is fueled by the millions of Americans who buy illegal drugs is simply ignorant. Grow up, turn off network news and have an independent thought.
Allen West thinks he and every other American who has served are above the law. There is not one guilty soldier in the eyes of this man because everything is justifiable with swift and violent force for this special class of citizen.
This is precisely the kind of BS that cost Republicans the election.
Vilification of an entire Country and its people over singular disagreements.
What a buffoon.
Does Allen West’s opinion count? What does incoming Congressman Murphy say on this matter.
