Republican freshman Congressman Ron DeSantis is forgoing his congressional pension, saying that he is fulfilling what he had told his constituents he would do and adding “we don’t need one” in the U.S. Congress. DeSantis says that members of Congress need to “lead by example” and said that congressional pensions foster “careerism among politicians” as politicos will have yet another incentive to remain in office.
DeSantis, who is still in the U.S. Navy’s Select Special Reserve, participates in drills a couple of weeks throughout the year, and he plans on staying in the military regardless of how long he stays in elected office. DeSantis notes that he has yet to qualify for his military pension.
Now that I am in Congress, I am not allowed, I will still drill, but I am not allowed to get paid because I am considered a federal employee now. So basically, I am just drilling for retirement points. -Rep. Ron DeSantis

Congressman Dr Ron Paul from Texas for his 20 years of service that ended this year never took a pension, and returned an unused portion of his yearly office budget to the treasury. Good job following in Dr Paul’s footsteps Congressman Ron DeSantis.
