This story about three gay individuals feuding over adoption rights awarded to them by a Florida judge to raise a two-year old infant will probably not end well, as this young girl now has three “parents” vying for her attention and her acceptance.
The case between the gay male sperm donor Massimilliano Gerina, the child’s Lesbian mother Maria Italiano and her partner Cher Filippazzo, who has just been awarded ‘sole parental responsibility’ has just been settled out of court which allows the father limited visitation rights.
Hopefully these two parties will realize that the scope of their individual responsibility now includes the proper care of an infant. In addition, the three must now find a way to put aside their differences and take into consideration the girl’s immediate well-being and upbringing until she reaches the legal age to be on her own.
According to Florida law, sperm donors have no legal rights in artificial inseminations. But Gerina said he considered himself a parent, not simply a donor.
“My papers said I would have parental rights, a visitation schedule,” Gerina said. “They hated it. They said this wasn’t what they wanted. I said, ‘Now that you’re already pregnant, you should have thought about that before.’”
Their daughter, Emma, was born March 10, 2011. The three parents feuded in court for nearly two years. A trial was set for Jan. 31, 2013, but a week earlier, Gerina, Italiano, Filippazzo and their attorneys settled the case privately, the newspaper reports.-Fox News
