March 13, 2013

By JAVIER MANJARRES

desantisFlorida freshman Congressman Ron DeSantis (R) went on the House floor and announced that he is filing a bipartisan bill with Democrat Congressman Ami Bera of California, to “sequester congressional pay.” DeSantis later reiterated his remarks about sequestering his and his fellow members of Congress; pay on Fox News’ ‘On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren.”
According to DeSantis, to stay compliant with the 27th amendment to the Constitution, the congressional pay sequester would start the Monday after the next election, and would “create a new baseline” salary going forward.

DeSantis said that he is filing the bill “because its the right thing to do” regardless of what others in the Congress may think.

Absolutely needs to happen! If we are supposed to “feel the pain” then they should too. As far as I am concerned, there shouldn’t be any exemptions from laws or regulations simply because they are congress members. I’m really encouraged to see these young conservatives taking a stand!

More important, before WE have to give up any of OUR benefits, Social Security, Medicare, etc, let’s see our “leaders” lead the way and give up some of THEIRS or better yet, let’s see THEM go on the same programs that WE do!!
