The hot news topic of the day is Gay marriage. While the U.S. Supreme Court hears from both sides of the highly contentious issue of same-sex marriage, polls seem to indicate that Americans are in favor of marriage equality.
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush told friends over at Newsmax TV that he, like many other Americans, would rather see the issue be decided at the state level.
“I would prefer it to be a state-by-state issue,” Bush tells Newsmax. “That’s how we have dealt with a lot of issues in the United States.-Jeb Bush, Newsmax
Bush’s protege, Senator Marco Rubio agrees that it should be left to the states to decide same-sex marriage, but goes a bit further in outlining that states should have the “right to define marriage in a traditional way.”
Just because I believe that states should have the right to define marriage in a traditional way does not make me a bigot.-Sen. Marco Rubio, 2013 CPAC Speech
Many Americans, including myself, believe that gay men and woman should be afforded the same opportunity of losing half of what they own in the event of a divorce, and that this issue should be left to the individual states to decide.
One issue involving same-sex marriage that must to be addressed is, the need to provide protective legal measures for religious institutions against being force to perform religious ceremonies that conflict with the respective religious institutions beliefs and teachings.
