Kottkamp- Out of the Crist Loop (VIDEO)

July 27, 2010 Florida Review 5 Comments

At the BREC meeting on Monday night, Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp took a couple of minutes to talk to the Shark Tank about his ‘unique’ relationship with the now Democrat-lite Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist. It is truly unbelievable that Crist does not communicate with his second in command. Crist did not even send Kottkamp an email, let alone a phone call, since he jumped the GOP ship this past April. I am just going to come out and say it– Charlie Crist is even bothering to fulfill his duties as Governor of the State of Florida, and not communicating with the Lt. Governor is proof positive of this. … Continue Reading

Kottkamp Address the Oil Spill and Governor Crist’s GOP Departure(VIDEO)

The Shark Tank also ran into Lt. Governor Kottkamp in Tampa and asked him his view on the clean-up effort in the Gulf, as well as what the State of Florida is doing about it. Kottkamp is running for Attorney General and is supporting the Republican candidate in the U.S.Senate race, Marco Rubio.  Kottkamp, who like most Florida Republicans was duped by Governor Crist when he ran as a ‘conservative’, says he hasn’t spoken to Governor Crist since his move to the left telling me that, “I haven’t, I haven’t talk to him in quite awhile.”  (VIDEO)

Holly Benson, candidate for Attorney General

April 14, 2010 Commentary 3 Comments

The Shark Tank rounded up its interviews with the candidates for Attorney General for Florida when Holly Benson agreed to jump in the tank. I met up with Holly in Miami last week and asked her about the position, as well as a couple of other issues.  There is no mistaking that Benson is an seasoned politican and an excellent candidate for AG. Here is an excerpt from her biography that is posted on her website.

‘Benson served as Secretary of the Agency for Health Care Administration. In that role, Benson worked to significantly reduce Medicaid fraud and to hold health care providers accountable. In addition, she worked to streamline the regulatory process and reduce the regulatory burden for providers and consumers while never compromising the safeguards protecting the health and well-being of patients.
Prior to her appointment as Secretary of the Agency for Health Care Administration, Secretary Benson served as Secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. As head of DBPR she led a team that improved customer service and reduced the red tape taxes that drive up costs for Florida’s businesses and professionals. The Department is responsible for licensing over 1 million Floridians.

Pam Bondi makes her case for Attorney General

April 6, 2010 Uncategorized 13 Comments

I recently had the pleasure of meeting with another candidate for Attorney General, Pam Bondi, who is running in a contested Republican primary against Lt. Governor Kottkamp and Holly Benson.  Bondi is a long time prosecutor from the Tampa area and a relative newbie when it comes to politics.  Bondi considers herself to be the conservative choice for AG in the race.  She’s been traveling the state promoting her candidacy for the position and she was in town to speak to one of Broward County’s larger and more active Republican clubs, Southwest Republican club of Broward.  Bondi strikes me as a very sharp and amicable person that comes across very genuinely.   In our brief interview, Bondi explains her reasons for running for political office.

More Healthcare backlash as Pam Bondi weighs in

Candidate for Florida’s Attorney General seat Pam Bondi has put out a op-ed expressing her dissatisfaction with the Obama Healthcare bill. Bondi is in the middle of a heated race for the Republican nomination with Lt. Governor Kottkamp and Fmr. State Legislature Holly Benson. Bondi is a former prosecuter from the Tampa Bay area and will be taking a swim in the Shark Tank next week.

FL Politicos give thumbs up to 10th Amendment

March 29, 2010 Uncategorized 12 Comments

There can no longer be any doubt that it is the Obama administration’s intention to divide, control, and remake the country in his socialist vision by any means necessary.  These power grabs are accomplished in several different ways.  Whether it’s through his so called “czars” and their vast regulatory authority, his appointment of leftist/progressive judges, or simply by cramming legislation thru Congress on strict party line votes, President Obama is hell bent on consolidating as much power as possible in the limited time he has remaining with a willing Congress.  The end result will be incalculable damage to our freedoms, rights, and our prosperity.   To fight back against these federal encroachments into areas that rightfully belong under state control, 13 states have joined Florida in a suit against the Federal government initiated by Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum. McCollum also happens to be the frontrunner for the Republican nomination for Governor. The suit was filed to the plaintiff states from falling under the unconstitutional Obamacare mandates that force individuals to purchase healthcare insurance or face fines.

Lt. Governor Kottkamp on Gov’t corruption

Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp, candidate for Florida Attorney General, has just put  this position statement regarding the  corruption that has affected all levels of  government.

Now more than ever we need transparency and accountability in our government.  Over the last year is has become readily apparent that too many politicians are conducting business in a way that puts their self-interest ahead of the interest of the people they were elected to serve. Numerous local officials have even been arrested for breaking the very laws they have sworn to uphold.

Since 2007 more than 30 public officials have been removed from office by the Governor.  Only a few months ago the FBI arrested three Broward County Commissioners for accepting millions of dollars in trade for illegal favors.  This rash of public corruption lead the Governor to petition the Florida Supreme Court to empanel a grand jury to investigate corruption in South Florida.  I support this effort as a necessary first step to restore public confidence in government. … Continue Reading

Kottkamp and Crist : Oceans Apart

January 31, 2010 Uncategorized 14 Comments

With all of the attention focused on the Congressional, State and the Senate race(s) here in Florida, there hasn’t been much talk about who will replace Attorney General Bill McCollum in November.  Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp has decided to finish out his term as the Lt. Governor and run for the Attorney General, a state cabinet-level office.

Kottkamp was nice enough to entertain my request for an interview last weekend at one of his campaign events in South Florida. The setting for our interview was one of the newest ocean cruise line ships, the MSC Poesia, which was waiting to set sail out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. You know the lyrics from the theme song from Gilligan’s Island? Well, I found myself singing that tune in my head as got myself lost and wound up walking aimlessly in circles as I tried to exit the ship, but that story is for another time.

The Lt. Governor struck me as a very approachable and affable fellow, as well as gracious with his time.  Lt. Governor Kottkamp has played ‘second fiddle’ to Governor Crist for the last several years, but based on our little sit-down, it’s apparent to me that Kottkamp’s views on policies and issues differ sharply with Crist’s.  In my honest opinion, Governor Kottkamp is a genuine Conservative Republican who is aiming to be the next top law man in Florida, but make that decision for yourself based on our interview below.
